Looks like he's getting rid of a lot of people without having to pay severance.
Not true. He sent an online form to everyone requiring they click yes to opt in and stay on at Twitter. If they don't click yes, they receive two months on payroll with benefits, plus one month of severance pay after signing a forthcoming separation agreement.

Why are you laughing, do you like child porn and/or are you a Nazi?????

Regardless of the LARP’ing fantasies, most of the employees you hate so much will have new 175k jobs in a couple weeks/months. Enjoying their severance while they put it all together.
I think the only one living in a fantasy around here is you. I don't wish ill on any of my fellow engineers, and have myself left companies before for better conditions and pay so if these people think that the grass will be greener, more power to them and good luck in their career. But this idea that Twitter is going to be unable to find talent is a fantasy, especially in this economic climate.

Stop, you’re letting facts get in the way of their LARP’ing and Musk fantasies

Why hasn't this been done already?
It's not some switch that someone flips. It's becoming very obvious that social media networks have a very short relevancy. Facebook usurped Myspace. Twitter usurped Facebook. Instagram usurped Twitter. Now it's TikTok's turn. It's a cycle. Twitter won't stop existing, but it will peter away, just like every other social media platform. The entire attraction to them is the trendiness of them, and trends come and go as the tide.
The mistake Elon made was buying high. He then started throwing tantrums about the sale and made himself look like an emotional manchild, which just accelerated the decline. He isn't nearly the technical and financial polyglot that he thinks he is.

You NPC's are so predictable.
He didnt become a billionaire by being stupid, but CNN will never tell you that.

Twitter was a shite company and Musk is going to ruin it and waste $44 billion and I don't care but let me write a manifesto to show you how much I don't care and how it's also going to end humanity!

I didn't call him stupid, but you apparently think he's infallible.

I didn’t say Twitter can’t find talent, just like a construction site manager can go fire 90% of their staff and foreman and probably have 300 people lined up tomorrow.
Very good chance though the combo of an accelerated hiring process + loss of corporate/institutional/project specific knowledge + the downtime + coverage gaps will lead to problems, and the workforce you replace them with hastily will have a lot of issues and problems requiring their own kinks to work out. Except in this scenario the construction project will have millions of people living on site during the restructuring and some of them will be trying to frick shite up and you may not have the people around to clean up the mess…
We’ll see where this all lands, but I’m enjoying the shitshow right now

Imagine how interesting this would be if they were a documentary being filmed. It’s the collision between two different worlds. You have a business focus regime trying to contour a company full of liberal arts people who a few can code.

That's Monday-Thursday. Friday is all day bottomless mimosa brunch, so he's really pissed them off interrupting this.

You can’t change the culture without getting rid of the cancers. The cancers hide in places you can’t see either. Elon is flushing them out and building the culture back with people loyal to him and his company, not the old company.
This is what Brian Kelly did here. There has been little to no interruptions to all this BS going on so the platform is stable and secure. This is all about establishing the culture and setting the company direction moving forward.

I don't know why you edited the part out about me presenting a straw-man, but for the record, you accused me of hating these engineers without knowing the first thing about me, so I'm not sure you ought to be assuming any sort of high horse with this discussion.
And for the record, you are obviously correct about their being transitional pains coming at Twitter. They may survive under a completely new paradigm, they may not. I won't weep if they don't as I hate the platform, but this has nothing to do with hating the individual engineers that built and maintained it.

I'm overjoyed this spoiled brat has been canned by Elon.

Thank you for this information. This is a better contribution than any leftist has made in this entire thread. Where did you get this information? That sounds more like SOP than just firing everyone.

Ok, so I will now try with you:
What inside information do you have about the direction Elon plans on taking Twitter? Your first paragraph above makes sense, and Musk has stated prior he has other plans for Twitter. Do you know what those plans are?
Extra points if you can respond without insulting people who advocate for free speech.
