Lucky's lasted just five months, opening before summer which is generally a slow season for restaurants. Rumored to turn into an Agave.

I liked when it was Zuhause Bakery & Coffee.

Agave Mexican is mediocre at best.

Zuhause was legit delicious. Lucky’s failed for not being clearly branded IMO. And because there’s too many restaurants in Laf to begin with.

I agree Agave is average but they are printing money. Youngsville location is always packed like rats

I never understood why they thought this was a good idea ? Location and $$$ BBQ in Lafayette are DOA. Agave, really, just open up another La Hacienda or Pedro's, we only have 5 of each, or another carwash. I would say Legend's as well but there is one right behind it

No doubt. They live next to me. Superior will be the best we have once it is built. Think about that.

I disagree to a point. I don’t think there’s enough QUALITY restaurants in Lafayette. Lucky’s didn’t succeed because of competition. They failed because it’s a horrible location for that kind of establishment with their price point, and they opened during a time where people are cutting back on going out to eat.

Now, I’m extremely curious to see if Whisky and Vine on Pinhook where the old Jolie’s use to be will last longer than 6 months. I believe it’s been at least 4 different venues since Jolie’s closed.

O/U on 6 months, I can't decide ?

Mid City Smokehouse on S. College, you're on the clock.

Love this place. We've been probably 10 times, mostly on weekends, and have been happy every time. Always seems to have a good crowd when we go, but can't vouch for the rest of the week.

Providing quality BBQ at a decent price point, given covid, given supply issues, rising meat costs, staffing shortages, make this a tough business anywhere.

I hope they make it, long term.

I have heard the same thing, just not sure it will last long in Lafayette.

Makes you also wonder about Blanchard's BBQ......very similar BBQ styles, very good, and both had to resort to a $2 upcharge on brisket dishes in the recent year.

Mid City Smokehouse has a nice cocktail bar and outdoor seating that compels them to be open for more traditional restaurant business hours, whereas Blanchard's does not offer that, and keeps their overhead low by limited business hours. Blanchard's closes at 2:30 pm every day, and is closed Sunday and Monday.

ETA: Blanchard's does have a few tables outside on the sidewalk, but it is nothing like the back deck, 2 large TVs and dog-friendly area that Mid city has.

I may be one of the few people in Lafayette that's not really hyped about Superior, it'll no doubt thrive here though. I've been to the Baton Rouge and NOLA locations a few times and always felt like they were really high priced for barely above average Mexican food. There's probably a handful of places I'd go before Superior when it finally opens.

I'm listening. I like fajitas and margs, but haven't found anything above average here for that.

I like Lapagua for both of those.

Maybe I just have a low bar for Mexican food, at its base it's just a cheap cut of meat, seasoned up and in/on a tortilla of some sort, sometimes the rice & beans is on the side, sometimes it's inside, sometimes you have to DIY the whole thing how you want it. Some places do it better than others, but I never go into a traditional or regular Tex Mex joint expecting my mind to be blow. The only times I can recall that happening was at the hipstered up Mexican places (RIP Acme Taco) but then people shite on places like that for not being traditional Mexican.
