Dalton is an upgrade over Winston due to injury. As soon as Winston's healthy again he'll resume his starting position. The only way that doesn't happen is if Red Rocket suddenly looks like a 2011 Brees clone and I don't see that happening.

Well when the strong arm overthrows open receivers ... that strong arm is worthless. That last game showed some major regression in Winstons QB play.

I expect the offense to be balanced and resembling some continuity with Dalton. Hopefully he can check out of Carmichaels play calls when he sees its not there.

Dalton won't give up the spot.

He will win a Super Bowl as a Saint.

Not at all. I think people are overestimating him.

Unless the offensive line and running backs plays better, I'm not expecting much more than what we have seen.

I think he will be better than Jameis has been this season, though I’m not expecting the second coming of Drew Brees or anything.

Next Joe Montana, when compared to Jameis anyway

Not at all. A lot of people are REALLY glossing over just how shitty he was especially towards the end of his time in Cincinnati. Jameis has been bad, but at least he has the ability to push the ball down the field when he isn’t hurt. Dalton has none of Jameis’ potential ceiling regardless of how infrequently we have been seeing it.

Dalton has the potential to be at least as ineffective as Jameis has been if he has to be the qb for any length of time with respect to the turnovers. He may play in a serviceable manner for a game or two but if he’s forced to start for a few games I think we’ll quickly see why he wasn’t in demand after leaving Cincinnati.

Brah, just stop.

He’s an 8 year league veteran. He’s shown his ceiling and it’s average to slightly below average as far as the total package goes for QB. He’s lame, a shitty leader, and doesn’t protect the football. There is no mysterious ceiling beyond that. That’s who he is. We have 8 years of data to say that.

“Brah” throughout those 8 years he has games where he can completely eviscerate a defense. Andy Dalton has never had that. On no planet is Andy Dalton able to do what Jameis did in the 4th quarter against Atlanta. That’s what I mean by ceiling. He just simply doesn’t have that arm or ability to make those throws. Jameis at his best >>>and Dalton at his best and their worst is pretty similar.

I’m not arguing that Jameis is the total package or a top qb either. More just that Dalton is in no way the answer if he has to play for more than a game or two. If you’re down multiple scores with Andy Dalton as your qb the game is over, you lose. Jameis can have these crazy runs where he just looks elite before he comes crashing down hard. It’s not going to win you anything meaningful either.

average qb play is all we need. i think dalton can do that. i believe winston can do it too, just not with a bad back.

I think he’ll do fine tomorrow but over a longer timeline he’s not the answer either

The op's question was about Dalton starting. He didn't mention any other quarterback in his post. He didn't compare him to anyone. Why do y'all take it as an opportunity to shite on someone you don't like instead of just responding to the question posed?

The season is prettt fricked when fans are excited to see Dalton. He will have a good game, everyone will crown him, then he will remind everyone who he is

I mean…. He got beat out by Justin Fields

He might be able to manage the game for us, but I’m thinking folks need to seriously recalibrate their expectations for tomorrow

Not necessarily because they thought fields was better. They were under a lot of pressure to start the first round draft pick. Everyone knew the season was lost already. The coach was a lame duck, too

I would be optimistic if I had confidence in our OL to protect him long enough to make good throws. I have Olave on my fantasy team and I'm considering benching him and play Dortch instead.
