WAY more people have it then you think and some may never have an outbreak.

I had my first cold sore when I was like 12. Almost certainly was from sharing a bottle during sports or at school. It is very easy to catch and is not dependent upon sex.

I had another one in college and haven’t had another since. I’m 32 now.

About four years ago a friend of mine started acting all weird. His fiance was worried about him and took him to the urgent care, where they thought he was dehydrated. They had been a festival and out all weekend.

Come Monday she calls me to come over to their house and check him out. Dude was totally spaced out.

Herpes simplex encephalitis. If you have herpes simplex apparently there's a chance it could happen to you. The infection jumps to the brain for unknown reasons. Rare for his age, about 32 at the time. His brain was swelling. When asked what city he was in, he said "flaggel." He survived and had to do a lot of speech therapy. At times a year or so later still had trouble with basic geography and things like that.
