In his PC Kelly mentioned the word recognition (adjusting protection and throws based on pre and post snap recognition) at least 4 times when discussing what Daniels struggled with/needs improvement. Would think experience would help with this but he has 20 something starts under his belt. Any coaches on here (I know we all are right!!) know if this trait is fixable or at what point do you just realize it will not get better and is something you just have to scheme around, even to detriment of not being able to utilize the entire playbook? He seems to have almost all the traits you want in a current day qb otherwise.

If Kelly didn't think it was fixable or thought that it presented too much of a liability, he wouldn't be starting Daniels. But he is.

Most qbs struggle with this and yes experience, film study, and coaching can help a qb get better.

Yeah the Daniels fanboys on here are basically ignoring this but it was a factor into why he didn't play that great on Sunday. If he improves in this area, and OL starts to gel, the offense could look actually pretty good once we hit the gauntlet of SEC play.

Could have been uptight in his first LSU start, or picked up bad habits.

I'm not worried until 3-4 games in.

It could be he and the Center make the adjustments in practice but had problems when the lights came in a game. You would think with all the experience he has that wouldn’t be the case. I’m sure they are working on it in practice and hope it shows in the games coming up. SEC defenses will be as good and many will be better than FSU.

This is something that should bother the coaches. Daniels is the one who is experienced which should know protections and hot reads. I was expecting better in these areas, its possible Nuss is worse.

He got better, but that is what I would be watching going forward. Simply have to get the ball to the WRs.

Same coaches and players he had as a Sun Devil? Everything is different, clown!

Needs to spend hours studying film. I’m sure he’s doing this

This is exactly the reason most people here were critical of him and didn’t want him starting. If he doesn’t have it by now he never will.

Hopefully Nuss gets some time and shows he can adjust at the line and make the hot reads in a game time situation. Once he does that the JD experiment is over. Nuss is the son of a QB coach you would think he’s been being taught these types of things for awhile.

Just my opinion, his downfall, he tucks and runs, elite running QBs use there speed and ability to keep the play going by getting away and keeping their eyes down field to make a throw...JD doesn't do that, just tucks and runs,

There’s a reason the “run and gun” offense didn’t last.

After watching film on him, not sure he will ever be great at pre- or post-snap reads. He primarily threw to his primary receiver with very few exceptions.

I think if he improves a bit, with an up tempo offense and his running ability, hopefully will be enough to be successful in the SEC! We shall see shortly.

I'm sure there's still an adjustment to be made with moving to a new team and a new offensive scheme.

This board is way too critical on a guy who's the only reason you were in position to win that game. At least wait for a game for him to shite the bed to criticize him as a problem.

It always seems fixable….until live competition. Same as having the perfect golf swing, brushing the grass ever so gently....until you put a ball down.
