How many IRS auditors employed today?

Did some googling and best number I could find is 6700 IRS auditors. I am not convinced that number is correct. If that number is correct, hiring 87,000 more is an absolutely huge increase in the size of the IRS enforcement arm. You don't do that unless you have some very big plans in mind.

I can guarantee you they will be looking at who is registered as a republican.

It more than doubles the numbers of full time irs employees.
Utter bullshite. The continued weaponization of the federal government against We the People.

Good. The level of service since COVID has been utter dogshit. It takes me hours to get ahold of any customer service reps to get information or clear notices for clients.
The IRS needs more funding so they can process returns and clear matters more efficeintly.

At you thinking this is why they are being hired

IRS's actual expenditures were $13.7 billion for overall operations in Fiscal Year (FY) 2021, including supplemental funding to support the IRS's COVID-19 pandemic-related activities.
WTF do they really have planned with $87B ???

You clearly have never interacted with the Service before in your life.
The IRS is not some big bogeyman like the strawman created on this board.
I have only had a few bad experiences interacting with the IRS in my career. The folks that work for the IRS are ordinary citizens just like me and you and want to help you get the information needed to get your tax matters in order.
Yes they screw up and make mistakes but by and large they are not awful to deal with and will work with you.
The folks at the state revenue departments are much more of a pain in the arse in my experience.
This board malds so hard when they don't get "mUh rEfUnD" processed timely or OmG NaTiOnAl DeBt but you also mald when the IRS gets more funding to go after tax cheats.
You guys just want to bitch and complain and will always be mad.

Good question.
They will be laying people off within 24 months from now if not sooner.

It's fricking absolutely scary as hell. I can't believe people aren't outraged by this.

We should all really just stop paying taxes….

Ok I will grant you this point. I filed a return in March of 2021, didn’t get my refund until late September 2021. It was dead silence aside from some random news articles updating on occasion about how far backed up they were in processing. If the extra employees were ONLY for processing returns for expediency to get the tax payers their money back sooner…I can totally go for that. We ALL should know this isn’t what it’s about. The Dems never seek ways to empower the people…only the government. Don’t be fooled by any “happy talk” you get from news operatives either.

Except most of the spending is for audits. Not better customer service. I would bet a lot of money the customer service actually gets even worse.

Go frick yourself, you IRS bootlicking cunt. Everyone hates you, and you are a fricking disgrace to work for such an organization. Eat shite and die.

No we want a flat tax that makes sense. You want someone else to pay your way . See the difference?

I work in private practice and have my entire career. I am not a Fed.

He doesn't think this. He's pretending that is what he thinks because he won't admit the truth.

This.
Make it a flat tax and you need about 12 people in the IRS.

bullshite, I got audited by the state some 40 years ago over Lykes Lines / Interocean Stevedoring over there policies. It kicked off a La state and Fed audits that are still happening. The money I spent on attorneys over the years would shock a normal person. It started over a nominal 30.00 tax bill

The 87,000 FTEs are not for customer service, you knucklehead. They are enforcers. Who do you think they’re going after?

That's a vague statement. What are you taxing? What is the rate? What type of exemptions will you grant?
I bet you have not put much thought in tax policy and just chant mUh FlAt TaX as the answer to everything.

DAFUQ? I pay my tax liability and I don't constantly mald and seethe like this board does.
I want the tax cheats to be busted and forced to pay their legally due tax just as I do.
This board has terminal brain worms in regards to taxation and tax policy.
