right call. Only way I would let it slide is if I knew the parent who owned the boat well and knew his kid knew what he was doing. There are 16 year olds better at boating than many adults. Though on the flip side, we can all remember the shite we did upsupervsed at 16.

Keep in mind we don't all grow up on the water like our LA brethren and don't live on the lake so this isn't something they've all done enough to be comfortable with their skills and respect for the boat/water.

This is the deal breaker for me, I grew up on boats and we went out with friends at that age but experience matters.

Also that you don’t know parents or boat

Helicopter parenting or the right call?
right call times 1000.

better the teen despises you then you have to ID his body because a bunch of young teens did many things w/o thinking and or drank to be cool.

if one adult was going-maybe.

in the time frame that the teen was to go---- plan something fun for him. buy him a new video game. it could help with the pain of him feeling embarrassed and his life is over.

point being: he will be alive to hate you and one day when he has kids understand.

Absolutely right! Drunken boating gets people killed and even if the kids are sober the boat could be hit by a drunk. Happens frequently this time of the year.

Our 15 year called and asked if he could go with his friends out on the lake without an adult. They are mostly 15 but it was a family boat of a 16 yr old - so he would be legal in SC. This would be out on a big lake near where we live - and there would've been around 6 of them.

My family has a place on a lake in northern Wisconsin. From our mid teens we’d be in the boats constantly either skiing or hanging out with other friends on the lake. Of course we grew up on them and knew what we were doing. Our jobs for years were being boat drivers and water ski instructors for a girls camp that was on our lake. Counselors were college aged

Had a 15 year old friend drown when I was in high school. Boat capsized. Other two kids made it to shore.

Had another high school classmate fall out of a boat at 17. Prop struck him in the head and killed him. Boat was driven by a 16 year old.

I'm probably going to be a pretty solid no on a boatload of 15-16 year olds.

If the kids haven’t grown up around water and shown consistent maturity in handling a boat, then no way

We went all the time at this age. My dad might have trusted me more than most because since 13 years old i prepped, hooked up, towed, launched, drove boat, towed home, washed and flushed the boat every trip. He claimed he worked to buy it and gas and ice and bait so he didnt want to do it. Plus if i fricked up i knew he would wear my arse out. At 16 5 of us rode from lafitte to grand isle for tarpon. All we had was a slip at sand dollar so boat would be safe. Of course when we were pulling the mantay ray tube one jacklep left the ladder down. fricked up the bracket. Had to pay for that one.

Correct call but he rebel because of it later on by not asking you. Nip that in the bud and have a man to young man talk about it
