Looking at getting the snip in the not too distant future. If you’ve had it done, did it mess with your training? I’m asking because I have several ultras planned in the next few months.

I could lift weights after about a week, but I didn't run for a month or so. 100% back to normal was a month for me.

That’s sweet that you stand with womens rights

Good for you. Expect to take a week off.

You’re going to feel like you’re ready to go on day 2 or 3. Do not go. You must wait. You’ve been warned lol.

Thanks for this thread, I am considering the same

Would walks around the neighborhood be feasible after a few days?

Walking will probably feel irritating until your stitches dissolve. They’ll rub on your groin and it’ll just be uncomfortable. Also make sure you wear some supportive underwear, maybe even a jock strap lol. You’ll just have a weird sensation of needing the support for them.
I ran a mile on day 3 and while running I felt fine. When I got done that shite started burning and was no beuno.
Had my vasectomy done last November.

I appreciate all the input. I am more than likely going to shoot (pun intended) for the first part of next year. I usually cut back on my weekly mileage in early spring.

I think it depends on the person and the procedure you have. Me and a coworker got it done around the same time, he had the no scalpel procedure and I had the traditional procedure. His recovery time was significantly shorter than mine, mine was over a week. Some of that could have been my fault. I thought I could go with just tight boxer briefs around the house and be fine. I felt like my insides moved every time I went to get up out of bed to use the bathroom or whatever. Weird sensation for sure. Then I got the jock strap and it was much better. I had pain for about a week but his didn’t last more than a couple of days and he looked at me crazy when I described what I was feeling. My doctor definitely cut more of my Vas out than his did, during the procedure the doctor held up what I swear was a 2” long piece of it and smiled and said “this is how much I’m taking out”. Lol. It wasn’t funny at the time. I didn’t lift weights until I was pain free. And when I started hitting the gym again I wore the jock strap for a week or so.

I had one in September. No scalpel. I did it and went to a farmers market the next morning and walked around. I took a week off of lifting and 2 weeks from sports. I did take it slow when I started back up and did not push through any pain.
It's not that bad. It's well worth the peace of mind.

How long did you wait before lifting weights
Posted on 11/7/22 at 10:46 am to Macrell
I was gonna say you’re gonna have to stop lifting weights and start playing soccer or tennis after you get em cut off but you already run marathons

It was close to 2 weeks for me. I think if I would have taken the advice I got and used the jock strap from the start I would have recovered faster. But I thought there wasn’t much difference between tight, “supportive” underwear and a jock strap. For me there was a difference. I could feel the difference in the support.

i couldnt lift heavy for 3 or 4 weeks but i was not in any rush.
if i was you, i would wait until the ultras are over with.
or better yet dont do the ultras and take up weight lifts

10000% get some compression underwear, it will speed it up a little bit.
I got my nuts cut on a Friday, I was back to weights on Wednesday and running the week after.
Congrats on the guiltless gut spraying.

I listened to my doc and waited 7 days. Felt fine on day three but I waited. Read somewhere about wearing a jockstrap for a week or so when starting working out again. Best advice I could’ve gotten. Had zero issues doing hit, jumping, running, etc with the jockstrap on. Don’t be a hero. A week off won’t hurt and will probably actually help you.

Take a week off. You'll probably feel perfectly fine after a day or so, but you gotta give yourself time to heal

UPDATE:
since the thread gained new life I figured I’d update. I signed up for a 100miler in feb with shorter ultras every month leading up to that. Also planning a rim2rim2rim Grand Canyon run at the end of April so looks like I’ll shoot (pun intended) for a snip in March.
