Lol I’ve been on the phone with my buddy plenty of times during live games. He has YouTube tv and I use cable. It hits his tv AT LEAST a minute after mine to the point where he’ll he end up turning his phone off for spoilers.

Again if it’s a congruent option then it’s fine. Idc that people can stream if they need to. But Amazon did an EXCLUSIVE deal. Meaning there won’t be an option for people to “continue what they’ve been doing”.

The proof will be in the pudding. I’m sure amazon will try and juice the numbers using peak sign in times or some BS. But in terms of viewers lasting a whole game, viewership will be drastically down

There are 147 million Prime members in the US. Viewership will be fine.

But live sports just isn’t as good of a product for streaming.

In what way? Every sporting event I've watched the last 3 years has been through a Roku Ultra using either YouTube TV, ESPN App, FS1 app, etc. I rarely if every have issues. I'm currently watching the Women's Euros and you wouldn't know it's not on DirecTV or Dish. I watch Premier League in 4k all the time.

Streaming isn't always perfect, but if you have the right setup it's really no different than traditional TV

I have had hulu live for at least 5 or 6 years now and the longest delay I have ever experienced is about 15 seconds and that has happened once, maybe twice. Prime is about as live as it gets and is virtually no delay. No buffering or resolution issues ever on either one.

I don't think it's a terrible move since I would assume a great amount of people have switched to streaming from cable and dish.

People scream about the delay but why does it matter if you are already watching it? Turn your alerts off on your phone for the game

Good stuff and youre right on. I'm blown away at the ignorance on this thread.

Im fairly new to YouTube TV but it was perfect for NBA Playoffs and Wimbledon. I held down the Saints West Coast Draft Room with it as well. MLB.tv has been amazing for well over a decade

When you realize the the NFL is no longer for the “Fans” anymore it all makes sense.

The NFL really couldn’t care less if the people watching are happy with the product. It’s all big corporate money and government subsidies.

If the Saint are one and I happen to be near a tv that showing the game I’ll pay a little attention but I no longer seek out NFL football to spend my time or money on and when it come to spending money I actively avoid it like the plague.

Streaming sporting events is about the biggest pile of dogshit you could subject yourself too. I’m already mad TV has a 7 second delay, now we’re gonna be a 1-2 minute delay? Buffering? How many devices can you stream on at once

So many people have Amazon prime subscription. You really think this is going to be an issue? I have it and will tune in when a matchup I’m interested is on.

gotta think that kills their viewership.

Pretty much everyone has prime though. If Amazon is paying them enough for the rights, they won’t give a shite about the ratings. What’s the ad situation going to be?

Most people would prefer it all to be on streaming services. Cable is dying with its ridiculously stupid prices. I’m not paying $200 a month just for sports when there are so many other options.

Old TV - NFL looks at ad dollars and viewership when determining contracts.
New TV - Amazon looks at new subscriptions to when determining contracts. (This is why popular shows get cancelled. Doesn't matter if current customers use the product. Amazon (and Netflix and everyone else) are just interested in new subs.)

No TV Option? the option is Amazon Prime streaming to a big TV

And who's going to watch the NFL? I don't know ... maybe the hundreds of millions of fans, gamblers, fantasy players and hanger ons/extra eyes in millions of bars/restaurants.

Only time I notice a delay or buffering is if I’m watching through the ESPN app. OP mentioned in another response liking a soccer team out of England. If he’s having to stream through ESPN, that would explain all of his issues.

But back to the point of the OP, are you sure the local networks won’t carry the games. Even when the games were exclusively on ESPN or NFLN, local affiliates still showed saints games.
