if there’s one thing he isn’t it’s stiff.
he swings his hips like a cornerback in coverage and his calling card is keeping guys in front of him
he ain’t gonna be guarding first team lead ball handlers to begin with anyway. Plus he’s 19. Defensive skills at that age are rare and he’s got skills

With where the league has gone, where the traditional PG is a dying breed and the strategy has become just let the best player always have the ball in his hands
CJ is far from a traditional PG there will always be a spot for talented bucket getters in this league. What you’re seeing is that league is starting to accept these guys as their PGs (if we are to assign them a position) instead of SG. The days of Ricky Rubio type guards getting 30+ minutes a night on a contender are over. If CP3 were to come into the league today he’d be a career 20ppg guy.

85 posts in 9 years and 1 post in the last 3 months and this is what you burn it on?
Good lord. If you are going to be the strong, silent type, at least bring something better to the table than some all time horrendous take.

It’s always the saints board fans on this site who want to pretend they know basketball

I didn’t say he was, we are on the same page. This whole thread has been people misinterpreting my whole point lol I should have worded it better

So I guess the end question I pose, I think we can all agree we are big Jonas fans, with him already being 30 he’s not going to be here long term. So what kind of guy do you ultimately put next to those starting 4? Is he already on the roster?
Ideally a rim protector with switchable skills who is an above average rebounder, and can shoot 3’s at a respectable clip
Defense and rebounding are the most important, the shooting would be a plus, but there aren’t many players who meet all of those criteria. If we don’t want to spend 20+ mil on a center, then someone in the mould of Robert Williams III or Richaun Holmes would work, IMO.

BTW we don’t appreciate what Jonas does enough. That trade could not have been better for us on the floor
He is so underrated at this point. Not to mention the locker room fits like a glove.
Ingram said this past year was the most fun he's had since being in the league.
Don't see that changing anytime soon.

Id rather go with a robert williams type player at center in today's nba.

It doesn’t help that it’s titled

That’s kind of the point though. I’ve seen a lot of people think they need to draft a traditional PG or a combo scored like CJ to mold and mentor for when he retires. But you don’t need that. There are many possibilities of the type of player with different skill sets you can have replace CJ once he’s gone, and I think we just drafted the most likely candidate.
Posted on 6/25/22 at 3:02 pm to CP3forMVP
Right, you don’t have to replace one player with another who has skills that identically match that player. The other half of the thread is talking about replacing Jonas, and I don’t think anyone thinks his replacement should have exactly the same skills as him.

I disagree I think he’s an important part of our potential success and should be re-signed if at all possible.

Did you watch the playoffs? He’s going to be played off the court because he isn’t versatile enough on defense. His biggest plus is his offense and we’re going to be okay there with Zion back. We don’t need 4 20+ point scorers.

I have to agree, I’m in no rush to get rid of JV because I do like him, but he’s the most obvious candidate to be upgraded at some point in the next few years.

Hopefully...by next year's playoffs...CJ will be our weakest link on defense. He will be MUCH easier to hide, than JV. I like JV...but with that huge "target" on his back, I just can't see him on the court...come crunch time in the playoffs.

Ayton and javale mcgee averaged 30 points a game on 75% shooting against us. We are dead man walking in any playoff series with JV as our main paint defender

It’s much better to have your weakest defender be a guard than a big, because ideally you’ll have a big that can help defend that rim if your guard gets roasted on the perimeter. If it’s your big getting roasted on the perimeter, you don’t have a rim protector to help clean up deficiencies.

Did you? He averaged double digit rebounds and points in the PHX series. Including an 25reb/18pt night.
He was our leading rebounder and 3rd leading scorer for the season. Should be a priority.

The bottom line is it’s a lot more likely we’re going to find the right complimentary player for the center committee that includes Jonas, than we are going to find and pay a better big to upgrade Jonas with.
