considering he has no starting pitcher or closer...poor defense...inconsistent hitting...

Paul left us in a tough spot, with Marceaux and Labas gone, there really wasn't much in terms of pitching. But Jay and Kelly have done a great job of developing the guys on our roster, and putting the best pitching staff out there that we can.

poor defense
This could be coached better.

I think the staff has done a good job with largely someone else’s team.
Jay will be judged by the teams he ultimately puts together, and how they perform.
I’d give the staff a B to B+ this year.

The sophomore class of pitchers Paul left us has turned out to be crucial for this staff, and for the most part, they have been duds, and have not developed into valuable contributors.
Ty Floyd has been ok, but not dominant. Blake Money, to his credit, worked hard to improve, but offenses have him figured out, and he has been unable to adjust. Garrett Edwards, Fowler, and Hellmers have been absolute nonfactors. Javen Coleman is TBD, because he has been hurt.
This is LSU Baseball. In recent years we've put out guys like Lange, Nola, Hess, Marceaux, Cole Henry, and Labas. What happened? Where is the fire? Why are they not developing? These guys are letting USM's staff absolutely outclass them in every way.

Our pitching is purely average
Ok sometimes but overall, "meh"

Hitting is always inconsistent for every team. I don’t care who you are. That’s just baseball.
For a stretch in conference play, Johnson and Kelly looked like geniuses with their bullpen management. Unfortunately, the bullpen has come back down to earth.
Dare I say, our infield might be playing its best ball they have all season right now.
Starting pitching was always the biggest question of this team from the beginning.

Our pitching and defense stats would look a lot better if we didn’t shift, IMO.
Also, there have been a lot of flyballs this year that the OFs behind Nola, Lange and Poche would have caught.

I have a good friend who is one of the analyst on the SEC network for baseball and he absolutely loves Coach Johnson. Said in time Coach Johnson will make LSU a powerhouse. He confirmed that Coach Johnson was left with nothing.

Paul retired when he did for a reason. There was no quality pitching left on this team.

Jay needs to try to get some of these plitchers he has recruited to Baton Rouge. If he gets the talent from Barbe and Neville here they will start. My guess is they may go pro. It’s always easy to second guess a coach when things don’t work out but he stayed with Cooper to long tonight again. And our batters consistently went after the low ball on the third strike. I have to tip my hat to the southern miss coach he seemed to keep us unbalanced with the different looks he showed our batters with his lefty, side arm pitcher, then tall reliever. If Hilliard settles in we should get the win today.

I think Blake Money could have been good this year without the wrist injury.

This team isn’t finished
We’re going to Omaha

Omaha is still on the table. Just saying.

Southern won’t get pitching like that again. I’ll give Storm his due. He bailed them out and held our batters off.
Good luck doing that again.

Defense and lack of ability to steal are my only qualms. I think the team has been managed well otherwise. Hopefully we can secure some top end arms next class.

Sunday night? He pulled him after a walk.
He got the 5 guys in a row out before that with three strikeouts.
They put him in the game with the bases loaded and one or no outs, I think it was one.
If anything jj patience with cooper last night was one of the better things that happened. He saw what we didn’t and cooper ended up proving everyone wrong.

Next years class is complete already and chalk full of the better arms that were out there.
It was said that even if we only get half the guys to come instead of going to the mlb and other teams get most of their guys, then we will still have the number one class by alot
