Teenager Dilemma

I have a son 14 he's never given me any problems, been playing sports all his life, never been in trouble.
They have been on spring break all week
This morning about 12:30 am I heard the door open and close so I called him and asked what was going on, he said "I'm going riding with a friend" then stated some girls name.
I got up at 8:30 am and he was still gone, took the dog to walk and here his arse comes walking down the sidewalk, then a car full of teenagers drives past with the front passenger seat empty.
I don't know if I should put my foot up his arse or blow it off as kids enjoying the last night of spring break

Tell him to wear a rubber or his life will be over before it begins.
Rubbers are key.

At 14 the foot goes up the arse

My dad was the type to put his foot up my arse. I’m considering taking an opposite approach when my child reaches that age.
Some of my friends’ parents had a more lenient approach where they didn’t make drinking or going out to be some kind of huge, unredeemable sin. Those friends seemed to end up less rebellious than I did.

I don’t get what you’re mad about.
You let him out of the house to go “riding” at midnight and he comes back at 8:30am
Did you tell him to be back around 2 or something?
Are you upset he tried to lie about being in the car full of kids?
I don’t really get what you’re pissed at.

If he wasn't brought home in the back of a police cruiser chalk it up as a win

Might want to start thinking of cute nicknames your grandkids will call you.
Congrat on becoming a grandpaw.

Start where you thought it was ok for your 14 year old son to leave the house at 1230am. Just start there, marinate in that moment for a while and the clouds will lift.

14 is way too young for all that.

No way any of my children were going out for a ride at 12AM. Period

I had a lot of rope at that age. My parents would let me go to concerts in major cities 3-5 hours away with older friends. But my parents would have sentenced me to extensive manual labor and house arrest for staying out all night like that.
Irrespective of what he’s up to, he didn’t play the game within the rules and is brazen in doing so. He doesn’t respect you.

At 14 you let him just walk out of the house at 1230am?
What time did you think he'd be coming back?

Yeah, I'm confused too. You let your 14 yr old leave the house at 12:30am. What exactly did you think was going to happen?
I think I'd be more relieved to see he was in a car full of teenagers rather than just some random 16+ yr old girl(age for license) who's such a loser she's hanging out with 14 yr olds

He was out doing what you did, what I did, all your buddies, your parents, uncles, etc..
I feel you though…picked up my 15 y/o son last night from a trip to the drive in movies.
Look on the bright side….Christmas may bring a bundle of joy for us.
