Depends on how tedious you want
The other thread recommended the guns of august and it was fine was sooooo tedious and it was 500 pages just for 1 month of the war . I struggled with it .
Maybe a more comprehensive view you may like that I reconvened was the First World War by Martin Gilbert .

If you're looking for a well-rounded general history of the conflict, I recommend A World Undone: The Story of the Great War, 1914-1918 by G.J. Meyer (published in 2006).

Certainly The Guns of August (Tuchman) and A World Undone (Meyer) are my favorites.
For an alternative media source, Carlin's (Hardcore History) 5-part Blueprint for Armageddon is excellent.

It's been a while since I've read this but I remember enjoying The Unknowns. It's a book about the pallbearers of the man who would be interred at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
It basically gives a cool bio of each individual as well as their specific experiences during WW1. If I recall, there was also a bit in there about how the body was chosen, how the tomb came to be etc.

An illustrated History of WWI by AJP Taylor would be a good place to start. It’s a concise history of the war, about 250 pages.

A Peace To End All Peace - David Fromkin
It's a very detailed non-fiction account of the build-up, the war itself, and the consequences which are still with us today. In particular the parcelling of the Ottoman Empire.

You were absolutely right. I’m finishing it now and it will be added to my list of the best histories of WW 1. Thanks.

I really liked The Last Cruise of the Emden, which is about a German light cruiser that was at sea and cut off from the rest of the fleet at the start of the war and had a remarkable six months as a commerce raider.
