Update: Why to this day do we still have busing of students?

Free education. Free breakfast and lunch. Parents should drop off and pickup their kids, and taxpayers would save millions of dollars.
Update: Enjoying the comments. Keep them coming. Most commenters are the same people against teacher pay raises and raises for school support staff. Nearly every bus driver has a second job because of the poor pay. Yet, if they strike or have a sick out to protest the low pay, then they face criticism for it. Pay the teachers and support staff a living wage, or home school your kids.

Because failing schools receive less in federal funding and school districts are super racist. They know that their zoned students will never put the school’s test scores to where they need to be, so they bus in white kids with a family structure to boost the scores so they qualify for zaa money.

I don't think OP means bussing as in 1960's era bussing. I think he means just transporting kids to and from school in general.

You think carpools are bad now? I couldnt imagine no busses and 500 plus cars lined up at some schools twice daily...before and after school.
