The girl couldn’t make team USA , so she went to her next option , I got no problem with that.

Armand Duplantis was born in Lafayette and represented Sweden.

People do this every year. Why is this a story?
Outside of the China angle, it used to be that most athletes that competed for a different country had stronger ties or didn't make the team in a more competitive country. That has been going on for many decades. We have been seeing a small but growing trend of athletes choosing teams of countries where they had less connection and they were also good enough to make the team of the country most would expect them to compete for. It is usually a result of more opportunities and more money.
There was a lot of discussion here about LSU's Mondo Duplantis competing in the 2020(1) Olympics for Sweden. He won gold in the pole vault.

If that is the case then that is more the old school version of flag shifting and I certainly have less issue with it.

Did any US media call out Naomi Osaka for playing for Japan despite being raised in the US, not speaking Japanese and training in the US?
No. She was a hero for being the first black Japanese player

If you could go back to the Summer Olympics board, you can see the decline or American Exceptionalism is very, very real.
Was that the board full of pussies who disappeared when we won the most gold and total medals?

That sentiment (shared by far more than I could have imagined) was one of the most disappointing takes I have seen on TD, a US-based sports forum. Some were positively giddy in the early days of the 2020 Olympics when China was ahead.
