Bold strategy, Cotton.

Michael Avenatti, the brash lawyer who became one of former President Donald J. Trump’s most outspoken foils before being felled by accusations of fraud, will represent himself for the remainder of his criminal trial in Manhattan, a judge ruled on Tuesday.
He is accused of impersonating his client — the pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels — and convincing her literary agent to send him nearly $300,000 in publisher’s payments meant for her.
quote:
On Tuesday morning the third witness in the trial, Judy Regnier, a former office manager for Mr. Avenatti’s firm in 2018, testified that the firm had been short on money at the time.
But before her cross-examination began, Mr. Avenatti told Judge Jesse M. Furman that he and his lawyers disagreed on how they would question Ms. Regnier.
“I’m making a formal application to represent myself,” he said, adding that there had been a “breakdown” between him and his existing defense lawyers.
Bold strategy, Cotton.

What is that old adage, “A man representing himself in court has a fool for a client”?

CPL finally has a client more vapid than Stormy Daniels.

Wait when was Avenatti ever a "foil" of President Trump?
I thought Avenatti already had gone to trial and found guilty? Is this a another case?

The guy was once a really good lawyer. Unfortunately for him, his ego and politics got in the way of doing what he was good at in an ethical manner.

I am no legal expert but can't the judge refuse to allow this to happen? Isn't Avenatti disbarred and they do not want anything to have a case for appeal.

Do you have to have a license to represent yourself?

His attorneys probably said, "Cash in advance or we walk."
So they walked.
So they walked.

No, he wasn't.
His pre-2016 record indicates he was very good at what he did. He's a scumbag, of course, but that doesn't mean he wasn't once a great trial attorney.

No, but I'm kind of surprised the judge granted the request being that they were in the middle of trial. I doubt this would have taken place if Avenatti wasn't an attorney.
