I dont know why some brands even waste money on advertising. McDonald's, Coke even most American beers. People will buy them regardless at this point and no ad is going to sway anybody.

That’s not true. A few weeks back I was watching TV around dinner time thinking about if I wanted to eat at home or go pick something up. A Burger King commercial came on and I thought “that looks good. I haven’t had a whopper in a while”. So off I went. Had I not seen that commercial at just that time I almost assuredly would not have eaten Burger King that night. But I did…and it worked.

Now, extrapolate that over a potential audience of a few million people and that one ad may have drawn hundreds or thousands of customers to BK that night that otherwise would not have been

Reason #1, is that advertising and promotional expenses are 100% tax deductible.

#2, is that while they may be established, they still need to stay at the top of your set of considerations. Basically, creating a high-level of awareness that they are simply still there. Brand affinity declines if you don't keep reminders out there.

Falstaff Beer says hold my beer. They were one of the top 5 beers in the 60’s and 70’s, they quit advertising and their beer basically fell out of the market. You think people would drink Coors light if they didn’t advertise, it’s crap beer.

If anything, their commercials can only hurt them. No one is going to start drinking coke b/c of a commercial, but they sure as shite will stop drinking it if they make a commercial that is offensive.

You see the same major advertisers every super bowl, and i cant' help but think that they just wasted a ton of money that they will never recoup. Coke, Pepsi, Bud Light, Doritos, etc. There's no way they see an uptick in sales b/c of their commericals. Now somebody new like GoDaddy getting a superbowl ad and people hearing about them for the first time? i can see that paying off for them, but Coke spending tens of millions of dollars on superbowl ads is just dumb.
