Curious about any experiences and if you had ID protection did it cover any of the loss?

I am a sober addict who has been to jail and I have filed for bankruptcy once in my life because of drug abuse.

Im safe, no one is stealing my identity.

Edt: Maybe my profile picture, because I am cute, lift, BJJ, decent cardio and a pretty dog!

Yeah some scumbag from my car insurance company sold my info to some scammers and they applied for every credit card they could under my name... All the cards and info from other people that they stole all came to a post office box and a postal worker was smart enough to realize that something funny was going on... The cops were waiting for when he pulled in in a brand new two-door Mercedes-Benz and arrested him on the spot... The credit card companies never came after me for any money ... I kind of felt fortunate that I suffered no blowback

Yea it happened to me in October 2019. I got an email from Credit Karma about a “hard check” on my credit report at a title loan place about 30 minutes from where I live.

Thank God for having credit karma. Put an immediate freeze on my credit accounts. With that said, the guy ended up getting a $10,000 “loan” from one of those places. And a $10,000 limit store credit card from Zales that he purchased a $7,500 diamond ring with.

I was able to get it all sorted out but it was a huge pain in the butt. My credit score dropped by roughly 150 points for 2 months until I got everything taken off.

Apparently some of my credit cards send notifications if there are changes to my credit report. I got a notification that a hard inquiry had been made with Capital One.

I already have a CapOne card so this didn't make sense. I called and learned that someone had applied for a credit card in my name, using all my personal info. The card was supposed to be shipped to Chicago and I definitely don't live in Chicago. I caught it early enough and it was never issued.

I put a fraud alert on all of the credit bureaus and I'm still working to get that hard inquiry removed from my report.

The guy got caught a few months later. He had been doing the same thing all over the state of SC. He had just gotten out of prison for a 10 year cocaine trafficking sentence. Immediately went to stealing peoples identities. Crazy. I’m still not 100% sure how he got my info, but I was told by the title loan place that he had a driver’s license with my info but his picture on it.

Not really identity theft but after a Navy Federal data breach my USMC retirement check and va disability check got hijacked. They noticed it almost right away and replaced it immediately.

Had someone open a debit card under my name and another under my wife … discovered it when I got my welcome to Schwab package with checks and a card in the mail..

Long story short.. they tested withdrawal a few times and then within two days moved 30k from my account.. had more going but we stopped that in process.

My bank covered the loss and I then set a lot of monitors… limits… identity theft stuff up…

They were very good… they had lots of detailed stuff… what was sad was some of the info used to set up accounts where places I use to live years ago etc… they were more detailed than the banks that let them create online accounts…

Asked my bank rep if this was common…she said not usually this amount but they probably are dealing with it twice a day with customers..

If you keep a decent amount in your checking account they flag you and buy your information off the dark web for a few hundred dollars then spend a few weeks setting things up to move money in 2-3 days..

Your info is out there if they want it.. just a few hundred dollars and they have what they want… protect yourself!

My ex girlfriends older sister apply nicknamed "koo-koo" stole her identity. You would think it would be harder to do it. She just stole all the needed items from their mom. By the time she got caught she had gotten an apartment along with multiple credit cards in my ex's name.

I was with my ex when she tried to get a credit card at Sunglass Hut and her sister already had gotten one in her name. That started the chain reaction of "koo-koo's" downfall. She claimed her boyfriend "Dontrell" forced her to buy all the stuff. koo-koo did a few months in jail and then rehab. Ex had her credit ruined

A few funny things koo-koo bought:
A whole apartments worth of furniture from Aarons Rent A Center.
A rental car AND rent a rims.
Every gas station you could imagine, she would fill peoples tanks for like 75 cents on the dollar in cash.
A credit card with a max of 250 dollars that was maxed out on EA NBA2k14 in game purchases.

it was almost 5 grand worth of stuff total over 6 months
