Historic Fiction (Western)

I have read several books by Michael Punke and really enjoyed the blending of history with a somewhat fictional storyline. I'm looking for similar recs on books centered around western history (people or events) that may have a fictional storyline. Any suggestions?

Centennial by James Michener.
The four books in Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove series may not be historical fiction but are great works of western fiction nonetheless.

I'm partial to the works of Paul Wellman
If you like a little humor with your historical fiction:
And of course:
AB Guthrie won a Pulitzer for The Way West (about the first wagon train on the Oregon Trail in 1843). He also wrote The Big Sky, about a journey up the Missouri River in 1830.
The Travels of Jamie McPheeters by Robert Lewis Taylor is another Pulitzer winner about a wagon train, though I have not read it

Fatherland.
Takes place in an alternate time line where the bad guys won WW2 (in the European theater).

I’ve been making my way through an old one: “Taos” by Irwin Blacker.
It’s historical fiction set during the Pueblo Revolt against the Spanish in 1680.

Warlock by Oakley Hall. Long novel but well worth the time.

The Son, by Philipp Meyer
Also suggest Blood and Thunder, which is actual history but so fun and story driven. The book dives deep into Kit Carson, the Navajo, and the Mexican War.

I'll second geauxpurple's suggestions. I'd also recommend Michener's "Texas".
"Little Big Man" has already been suggested. I'd also add "Return of Little Big Man". Both both are laugh out loud humorous.
