The SEC doesn't need any new teams. Let them beg.

Just being larger to be larger is not a virtue - the SEC is made up of individual schools with financial interests. Making more money overall has no virtue unless it also amounts to more money per school

If what I understand is correct, with expansion the current TV contracts automatically will get renegotiated. The Dollars could double or triple if think about what the PAC12 just signed. This could mean that each School would receive 34 million instead of 17 even with the additions to the conference. Even though you split the pot with more Schools the pot will be so huge it won't matter.

20 years ago everyone was bitching and moaning about going to 12 teams and then to the SECCG. The cry was that it is too tough, we would beat ourselve to death and the SEC would never again have a NC. My view, the last 5 years may suggest the view 20 years ago was wrong.

Going to a 16/8 conf will force the others to follow and set up the structure to get rid of the BCS and replace it with a playoff. The SEC leading the way AGAIN and choosing our teams before the others gat to start the bidding war keeps us in the driver's seat. Sounds like a great plan to me.

I just can't believe we'd let TAMU into the SEC.

Their fans are terrible.

The SEC has a tremendous thing going - unless another conference forces the issue in a way that makes the SEC less competitive without expansion - there is no way I think this looks like a good idea
At first I thought the addition of aTm and FSU, maybe WVU, VT, UNC or Oklahoma and/or Okie State would be fun. But it would forever change the dynamics of the SEC as we have known it. I have begun second-guessing this whole idea, and now I will not be disappointed at all if there is absolutely no SEC expansion, now or ever.

It's not the team, its the markets (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio).

Exactly!

The 4 Super Conference will happen. The PAC-16, SEC, ACC and the B1G will run College sports and it is only a matter of who will get invited to play. It will end up like a huge game a musical chairs and you better get a seat or you will be left behind. I like the fact that the SEC is taking the lead in this like they have for years.

From another board:

Tony Barnhart on radio this morning:

quote:

- The Presidents are meeting now, or sometime today. Will probably be a couple of meetings. One via web conference, one face to face.
Yes, meetings were originally scheduled for Sunday, but have been moved up.

- A&M BOR moved their meeting up to Monday in order to counterstrike the Education Board meeting on Tuesday.

- Tony spoke with someone who is "very very high" on the Big 12 hierarchy, and they told Tony that the only way A&M does not go to the SEC, is if the SEC Presidents vote against.

- Mike Slive is 100% confident that the Presidents will vote A&M in. Tony said a meeting would not have been called unless Slive was totally confident he would get the desired outcome.

- Tony said he has heard that all rumors regarding FSU are not true. FSU has not heard from the SEC. Tony said a lot of schools in the SEC do not want FSU, because they shunned the invite in 1991.

- SEC is making this move, because Slive feels like the status quo of college football is about to change. Slive wants to be proactive, not reactive.

- OU feels like the Big 12 is going to be alright as long as it has OU and TU. According to Tony, OU wants to Big 12 to survive, because they it gives them the easiest path to BCS bowls and National Championships.

- Tony says VPI is a no go due to Virginia politics. VPI and UVA are directly tied at the hip now due to all the mess that went on to the VPI into the ACC several years back. If VPI comes, it means UVA would have to come, and that's not going to happen.

- SEC would love to look East to Carolina, mainly NC State, but that seems to be a longshot. So, a 14th member might just be Clemson or Mizzou, due to default.

That would be great ( FSU/Texas A&M) if it stays that way. I hope that changing to much might suck all our favorite football team into a big time TV black hole where their is no return.

Considering the aggies have been ut's bitch for over 100 years, you're getting pretty cocky over something that hasn't happened yet.

Clemson makes sense but they'll never be competitive in the East. Missouri will be another Ole Miss and we already have one too many.
