because it's a proactive move.....i hate SEC fans who don't like to make positive moves for the conference.
If the SEC wants to dip its feet into Texas, then they need to f'n take the state over. That basically means UT and A&M, which accounts for probably 90% of the state's cfb fans; A&M alone accounts for probably 25%-35%.

The SEC doesn't need to take over the whole state of Texas. Taking A&M means taking over two top 10 tv markets in the nation ( LINK). It's been made clear that UT doesn't want in on the SEC because they'll have to share earnings equally with everyone else. I personally believe UT will go independent while Texas Tech & Baylor may have a chance at going to the PAC-12 again.
FWIW, the ACC did half arse their divisons when they decided to expand. But I'm sure they'll get a second chance at taking schools like WVU and such,

It's the 25 million TVs and the likely $34 million per year, per school that's the interest, for both the SEC AND A&M.

I remember A&M beating LSU for recruits and 5 in a row before you guys canceled the series.
What a convenient snippet, of when LSU went to poop for 6 years(1989-1994), sandwiched in between the Cotton Bowl beatdown last January, and the 4 LSU wins out in 5 games in the early-middle 1980s, back when both teams were ranked yearly, and on equal footing in talent and HCs.
And if by recruits, you mean a handful of SWLa ballers from Laffy and Lake Chuck area, or the three BR Broadmoor players that LSU largely bypassed..I will admit there was a time ATM was on par and a nuisance...
A time period where LSU landed Harvey Williams from under A&M's doorstep, Rogie Magee, etc..from Texas.
Roadies to the Tackle Box..depressing.

FWIW, I'm really looking forward to the Texas A&M-LSU rivalry getting re-ignited.
As much as I enjoy the LSU-Arky series, it has never really taken hold in my mind as a true "rivalry" game. It's turned into a big game, no doubt, but I just don't feel rivalry there. I don't know how else to put it really. Like the Arky fan said above, check back in 20 years and my opinion might be different, but it's just not there yet IMO.
Nonetheless, having not even entered the league yet, I already feel a rivalry with Texas A&M.

If this move were to get an elite program, I would be fine with it, but adding mediocrity to the conference does not make much sense to me.
Just to get this clear I really hate a&m, not in a rivalry kinda way, they just annoy the hell out of me. But to say that their athletic department as a whole is mediocre is a fallacy. I know football is really all that matters, but look at all their other sports mens and womens track both won outdoor national champs, womens bball national champs, baseball cws, mens basketball is a hell of a lot better than most sec schools right now, softball is pretty good. Even football went from being crap to at least competitive now. My point is they really do bring a lot to the table for the sec as a whole.

I agree with this but I defiantly feel it growing, and any fan that disagrees with that is delusional. The game is VERY close virtually every year, and on top of that arky fans annoy the hell out of me also. Right now it is probably the closest thing to a true rivalry for us.

I don't understand the Oklahoma talk. They're going to join the SEC and fly 1150 miles to play a conference game in Gainesville? They're going to want to play in a conference title game (assuming they get past Alabama, LSU etc to get there) in Atlanta, 860 miles away from their campus? I don't know.

And an Amazing 236 miles from Fville....

The fact that they're close to Fayetteville is further proof that they're too far out of the way.

(I don't think OU belongs btw; I just think that distances like these are overstated.)

Honestly think we get aTm and mizzou. I dont see Ok/Okst getting separated. Plus to the big wigs Mizzou brings in better tv markets.
Then we can have a super cat conference of LSU, Auburn, Mizzou, and Kentucky.

You're probably right. But I was thinking of other benefits, not the difficulty in travel. If Oklahoma joined the SEC, and played in Atlanta, what recruiting benefits would they derive closer to home as opposed to a championship game they played in Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, etc? It's things like that which make me think it would be too much of a culture shock.

As I have said before, and even in a couple of threads that got whacked, the SEC for some reason has locked on Florida State as the other team to come into the SEC with TAMU.
Don't shoot the messenger here, this is not my dream scenario, I have no dog in this hunt. It's not what I want or probably what most posters here want, but you will see it is the case.
Like a lot of people, I would have preferred one of several teams other than FSU ...Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Missouri all make more sense to me...but Slive and the rest of the suits in the SEC offices have decided on the Criminoles.
Like I said, don't shoot the messenger.

Good questions. I suspect that in the SEC, OU's bottom line will indicate that they're making more money.
But....The main reason I highly doubt that Oklahoma will come to the SEC is that it would be too difficult for them to play eight (or nine?) SEC games as well as the Texas game and Oklahoma State game (neither of those games will EVER be canceled).
Oklahoma should stay put, and so should Texas, and they should let A&M go, and keep the Big "12" alive. Think about it. If the Big 12 were to lose Colorado, Nebraska, and Texas A&M in a matter of a couple years, the Sooners will be in a situation they had with the old Big 8--beat the other big shot in your conference and go to the Orange Bowl. A reduced Big 12 will basically mean, "Beat Texas and go to the BCS." Pretty sweet deal for the Sooners and Longhorns when you think about it.
