I think he’ll be a wonderful HC, but he will be unproven when it’s time to look for a new HC and that might be considered too risky.

He's proven as a coordinator, and that's honestly good enough for me. I'd rather risk his inexperience now and let him cut his teeth as a HC than watch him become the next big coach somewhere else.

Regardless of who the OC is, it will depend on qb play. Hopefully, this improves next year. If it doesn’t then it doesn’t matter who is calling plays.

Didn't think about this. This is a legit reason and makes sense

Well, it's a legit reason in certain circumstances.

Did it go like (a):

"Gilbert: wow, what a great opportunity - big time football, huge pay increase [probably 10X what he's making now]. I'm very interested. However, I won't go unless I can bring my staff.

O: sorry, but that's a deal-breaker. Can we convince you otherwise?

Gilbert: no, I'm adamant, even if it means passing up an incredible opportunity like this, both experience and pay-wise."

Or, did it go like (b):

"Gilbert: wow, what a great opportunity - big time football, huge pay increase [probably 10X what he's making now]. I'm very interested. I've got some really good people. Would it be possible to bring some of them along?

O: I knew you'd say something like that. I'm not sure who you think you are, but I'm the HC. There's a certain way we do things around here. One team, one heartbeat. I can tell I'm wasting my time with you"

I'm thinking the reality is closer to (b). O never wanted Gilbert. He wanted Lane Kiffin (ridiculous to think he could bring him in). Kiffin said how about Briles? Briles was a no-go and then O just dug in on Ensminger - never in good faith attempting to accomplish what was promised - landing an elite OC.

We've been played.

Yes! A fiery topic for me! Canada was THRILLED with Brennan. He had an ENTIRE playbook for Brennan. Utilized tons of quick slants and hb screens for getting under defenses. Brennans specialties fit Canadas scheme perfect. I am furious we let that man go. He had the vision.
And to think, instead of paying $1.7M to fire Canada, we could have Aranda as HC, Canada as OC, and whoever Aranda would find and hire as DC. Instead we have the reluctant Ensminger as OC coach and the walking dead as head coach. I didn't like the hire although I wanted Orgeron and LSU to succeed, but at this point it seems like the die is cast, if this latest info is to be believed.

Do you happen to know what Aranda's opinion of Canada was?

How is he not qualified?

Fair question, i guess you could say that anyone with a good football knowledge and previous experience coaching offense would be 'qualified'.

But to me, qualified to get hired at LSU means that you are proven to be excellent at what you do and fairly recently, at a comparable job. I also think other schools should be at least interested in the candidate. I dont think that's too much to ask, and O nor Ensminger fit that bill.

Easy answer...would any top 20 program hire said candidate?

The man told you what he was going to do in the presser after the A&M game.

On Matt Canada: Everybody wants to be a head coach … I have in mind what we want on offense. I’ve been to some good schools with good offenses. If he were to leave, we have Steve Ensminger, who we’d consider.

Literally beggin Kiffin to be your OC is just hilarious

Hey Ed, why not offer Sean Payton?

You think Kiffin thinks of O as his little 'special' buddy and he doesnt want to hurt his feelings? I wouldve loved to hear that phone call.

Yeah, that's a thing, but that's not qualified.

I would have preferred Canada be the one to stay. Ive talked about this extensively. With Brennan at the helm this year, Canada would have had us operating at an 11 win level. Possible better.

His draw ups for Brennan would have torpedoed the SEC. And O would have had no choice but to play Canadas QB of choice.

I'm curious about that one post yesterday about Cananda not being open to input about blitzing schemes, and that's why Aranda was at the parent/teacher conference as well.

Tenth wait help me understand your reasoning please. How is it a slap not to pay Ensminger Canada money. One is unlike the other. At the time we paid Saban a lot of money to be our HC, We paid Miles a lot of money as well. We over pay O as is yet not as much as we were paying because he doesn't warrant such high payment. Why should we pay Ensminger a huge payout when A) He is not as good as Canada. B) He doesn't even want the job. C) He is nothing more than a title for O to do his thing and assist when needed pretty much. When companies hire new people they usually don't start them out at the pay grade the former was making.

Well, except for the misuse of qualified.
