I'm actually ok with this. Jordan could have done so much more with him.

Ya it would have been cool to see more from his perspective.

For sure. I personally feel he was a wasted character in the book series.

While I was grateful for Sanderson finishing the series, the one area of the series that was so important to Robert Jordan was the Tinkers and the Song, both completely left out of the finale as if their purpose had been meaningless.

I just started this series and had no idea they were making a show out of it. I am really enjoying it so far - very excited to see it brought to life.

I started reading this series in the 90s so this is my original Fantasy series love.

Just power through the slog of books 8-11 (10 being just a ridiculously boring book), skim if you have to, and you will be rewarded.

Its an awesome series.

Could you give a brief synopsis that doesn't have spoilers?

I've always heard good things about the books but I've also heard that the books in the middle are a chore.

That plus the number of books has always made me choose something else to read.

Hmmm.

A world where only women can use “magic” safely, one such woman is searching for a person that could be the reincarnation of a prophecied savior of sorts that can defeat an evil force that may be emerging into the world again after thousands of years.

A group of young people from a small village are thrust into the wider world and danger.

the first book is very derivative and LOTR-esque, intentionally so he could get published. The rest of the series is decidedly not and much more in depth, and definitely much more a thing unto itself.

Just to be clear, he doesn’t write like Tolkien at all. Extremely detailed oriented, descriptions are plentiful, and there are a lot of characters.

Books 8-10/11 are a chore.

I always assumed the tinkers picking up weapons was the song they were looking for

Speaking of tinkers pickup up weapons, I'm also interested to see how they portray the Aiel.

How I envision them: Fair-skinned/hair, dress like Bedouin, armed and fight like Zulus.

That's an apt description of Aiel. They are basically giant Scottish folk, but your description as to dress and fighting style are accurate.

but they have to be tan - they hang out in the sun all day, skin probably similar to their clothes and their colors blend in with the background.

I wonder when we may have some casting information. Need to know who is playing Moiraine, Rand and Mat for starters and Egwene and Min. I think those are the main ones I care about that get introduced in book 1.

Lan would have been cool but his infatuation with Nyn really knocks him down a few pegs.

ETA:

IMDB shows the following writing credits

Series Writing Credits
Michael Clarkson ... (1 episode)
Paul Clarkson ... (1 episode)
Justine Juel Gillmer ... (1 episode)
Dave Hill ... (1 episode)
Rafe Judkins ... (1 episode)
Amanda Kate Shuman ... (1 episode)

Well, for GOT, they announced the casting director and first cast member (Dinklage) 5 months before the production start. That would put us announcing a casting director and a cast member next month. Guess what is next month? JordanCon. I imagine we will get some announcements there.

Another thing: One of the writers had a picture of all of the writers in Hong Kong within the past few days, and Rafe Judkins put out a cryptic picture which makes it appear they are now in either Bali or India.

Those would be really interesting filming locations for EotW and tGH. I have no idea what they could be filming there besides the Blight. Nothing else really makes sense except for I guess Shienar which as Asian undertones.

Ya but it could also be Falme, since Book 2 will be filmed as a part of Season 1.

Ya Hong Kong / some historic site in China makes a lot of sense for Fal Dara and Shiener and then some coastal city in Bali or India or wherever will probably be Falme

I'm really curious how they do accents. I think they will not follow Jordan and just give most people British-esque accents.

The Seanchan, for instance, are supposed to have Texas accents basically, which would be completely absurd on screen.

And it kind of depends on how they go with the mythology. Like when they find the Benz hood ornament. If they go with that they should really do it or just leave it out all together
