Are you reading books in publication order? All I can say is just keep reading. There is always another secret.

I don't believe he is. I believe he is reading Mistborn 1, now Stormlight.

I have strongly suggested to him he should read Elantris and Warbreaker after Stormlight 3, then Mistborn Era 2, Books 1-3, before moving on in Stormlight.

But he certainly doesn't need to

I think publication order.

Read Mistborn era 1, now Stormlight, and was going to read Mistborn era 2 after that.

Might take a little break after Stormlight before starting era 2.

What you have laid out is not publication order.

You can do it whatever way you want, but there becomes...increasing connectivity between all of the Cosmere books, with various characters starting to pop up between them.

If you want to go stormlight all the way through, you certainly can. But I don't think its spoilery to say that there is going to be some characters that pop up that you won't understand the connection, as well as a fairly major spoiler for Mistborn Era 2 book 3 that will popup late in Stormlight.

Ultimately it doesn't matter, as you may end up rereading a lot of these books.

O dang, didn't realize that. Yea I'd rather read them in a way where I understand/know more about the characters that pop up.

Yeah for first time read through, I recommend reading in publication order (including the novella/short stories). Like Fun Bunch said, connections from the Cosmere become more apparent and significant as the story progresses.

Now some of the novellas/short stories aren't as critical and can be read at your leisure. The ones I'd read in order would be The Emperor's Soul, Sixth of the Dusk, Misborn: Secret History, Edgedancer, Dawnshard

Here is the publication order:

So looks like I already messed up by reading WoR before reading The Alloy of Law. Will it throw me off if I jump back and read AoL after I finish WoR?

Also, didn't even realize these were completely different worlds. The completely different magic system makes more sense now.

Finish words of radiance since your practically done but as others have said I’d pause on stormlight until you’ve read Mistborn era 2 books (minus the lost metal), Warbreaker, elantris, and ars arcanum the book of short stories. Then can do stormlight 3 and 4, go back to the lost metal, then wind and truth. The secret project books can go after stormlight.

To me it doesn’t matter too much until you get to Stormlight 3. I’d read Warbreaker and maybe Elantris before then.

I’d read era 2 1-3 and Secret History before Stormlight 4

Era 2 4

Wind and Truth

That’s how I’d do it

Well, now that WaT is out later tonight. I will be avoiding this thread until I'm done. I'm 70% thru my RoW re-read. I'm going to try and power thru that tonight/tomorrow.

I avoided the WaT thread as I didn't read any of the chapters that were released early.

It worked out well that I'm off this coming Mon-Tues. Lots of time to read.

Buddy of mine apparently got a copy Monday. Won't tell me anything other than "holy shite it's gonna be a long 5 years til book 6. It's incredible. Ending is insane."

Said it's basically a 1400 page Sanderlanche. I'm bricked up.

Did you learn nothing from Mistborn? The Ruination of AI can alter digital media. Ensure all your books are written on physical metal plates to ensure their integrity!!
