Has anyone else read Dragonsteel Prime yet? Got my digital copy a couple of weeks ago and read through it this weekend. I really enjoyed it, was cool to see some things that eventually made it over to the Stormlight series.
Other than the obvious (Wit) would be curious which other characters end up in the Cosmere. There’s at least one other that’s a bit spoilery.

I think it was included as an option with one of the recent campaigns. I’ve bought so much stuff from there recently I can’t remember which one. I haven’t received the hard copy yet but I have the E book.

Dragon steel prime hardback was included in the WoR Leatherbound kickstarter
I have it on my shelf, came with the leather bound WoR late last week.
Plan on reading it over the thanksgiving holidays

The Shallan chapters in Oathbringer are a brutal slog. I’m thinking it’s because I’m listening to the audiobook. I don’t remember them being this bad when I actually read them.
I think it’s because of how shrill and obnoxious the narrator makes Shallan. In my head she wasn’t such an awful person. In the audiobook she has literally 0 redeeming qualities at all. IMO, The narrator completely missed the damaged, quiet, desperate girl in Shallan. I pictured her as a sort of light hearted quipping girl who makes goofy comments occasionally and tries hard to fit in, occasionally forced to put on a strong face.
In the audio book, the narrator reads every line Shallan has with an angry, malicious, biting edge that makes her completely unlikable.
She has all the negative qualities nailed but with none of the underlying qualities that redeem her and it leaves every Shallan chapter feeling empty and negative and dispassionate.

***SPOILERS (technically)***
I hear her in three voices (at least thus far):
-Shallan- Just as you described how you picture her: light-hearted with good-natured or faux innocent quips, delving into a bit of a sad/haunted tone at certain times. Her voice (to me) has a positive quality to it and is clear.
-Veil- A bit more of a flat sound to it making it seem slightly lower than Shallan's, also she's not quite as expressive but far more direct. From what you describe, it sounds like the narrator is channeling full-time what I envision as being only Veil.
-Radiant- Same range as Shallan, but missing the positive quality. There's almost a British accent to it due to precise enunciation and purposeful speaking pace.
***END SPOILER***

I agree. The narrator completely missed the nuance in Shallan which flips her from a very interesting three dimensional character to a two dimensional bitch that ruins the pacing of the story. I will try this weekend to read instead of listen to the next couple Shallan chapters and see if my mind changes.
I see the characters as follows:
Shallan is genuinely herself. Quick witted and using sarcasm and quips to cover for her insecurities and damaged past. Very intelligent but shy and reserved and aloof like an artist who occasionally inserts herself into a conversation and then blushes. She’ll figure that out eventually. She might have already in RoW I can’t remember how that one ends for her but I’ll have it reread before WaT drops.
Veil is her outlet personality. A sneaky cunning spy who easily makes friends and loyalists out of bar patrons and roughians. Also very reckless and impulsive. This is why she fits the ghostbloods, Kelsier was/is reckless and impulsive and often does things without thinking about them. She drops her proper light eyes training and class in this personality.
Radiant is just her imitating her teacher and idol - Jasnah Kolin.
I can’t remember but I feel like she merged these at the end of RoW right? I’ll get there in a couple weeks .

Not reading the thread obviously but just chiming in with an update. I'm now about 3/4 of the way through Radiance.
I still don't dislike Shallan's character but she is definitely now the weakest of the all the mains. Her storyline has fallen back quite a bit. It's pretty annoying that she is going on with this undercover operation she's got going when all she has to do is tell the connections she now has and they could take care of the situation. But whatever.
Just finished the chapter where Kal gets out of jail and Adolin offers the shard blade/plate to him. DAMNIT KAL TAKE THE PLATE
I mean I knew he wouldn't take it but man I wanted him to. He wants revenge on so man people and wants to take down the assassin, well this would let you do that. And why give it to Moash, the guy that you know conspired to kill the king behind your back. Regardless if you think it's the right move now. I feel like it was a pretty bad movegiving it to him, that is going to backfire on him.

I envy you reading WoR for the first time. It's my favorite Cosmere book so far and one of my favorite book in general.

Up until about the point where Kaladin jumped in the fighting pit to take on the six shard bearers I actually would have had it even with WotK, but it has really taken off since then. I can't put it down now and hopefully finish it by next week. Have maybe 200 pages left.
One character I love that I wish we got more of is Wit. The mysterious aspect of him is really intriguing so I get why they don't have him in there a lot. They have dropped some hints that he is pretty old or at least claims to be. After the night Sadeus revealed Navani's writing about Dalinar's visions to try and make him look bad, that night Wit said he had to leave because it'd be bad if the person looking for him found him. That for some reason made me think Wit is actually like Mistborn era 1 old. Like someone tied to Ruin is actually after him. Just a random guess. Or that he is bad and that someone tied to Preservation is after him. If Ruin/Preservation are even a thing anymore
