The mentally challenged of this board who dont understand why if we start pulling top 20 or 15 recruiting classes in football it won't matter if we are 6 or 7th in the division. Our baseball team is predicted to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack in the sec and 3rd in the west behind LSU Vanderbilt ole miss and Florida, yet we are ranked 12th nationally and no one coming into this season thinks we have no shot at winning it. We at least have hope and confidence in this team. You see it doesn't matter if we are picked 3,4,5th in the west if we have a top 15 team talent wise we can compete with anyone. For those who do not understand this perhaps this can help your small brain comprehend this concept

You don’t have the qualifications to explain anything to anyone.

We've pulled in the top or close to the top ranked class in the conference in baseball. Also people are hopeful because we were one caught popup or strike from winning it all. Recruiting rankings don't mean everything but if you're continuously 6th or 7th in your division, you're a non-factor.

This is why I don't understand when coaches like Les Miles and Mark Richt get fired. They got fired for going 10-3 too often. That's nuts. I realize football for states with their recruiting is different, but those were good coaches for their respective schools. We made this mistake by running off Ken Hatfield, who despite a dismal bowl record, went 9-3 or 10-2 just about every year. And we never recovered.

NCs are rare. All you can hope for is having teams that are consistently feared, respected, and in the hunt to win one every year.

Comparing baseball and football is asinine.

In football you have to (essentially) win the conference championship to have a chance at winning a natty.

In baseball, you can limp into the tournament and get hot and go on a run. That's what happened to the Hogs last year. Arkansas was probably the 3rd or maybe even 4th best team in the SEC in baseball last year, but got hot at the right time and got the right matchups to make it through Omaha.

That doesn't happen in football

Also half P5 schools don’t give a shite about baseball, that eliminates half the competition

I would also argue that Richt and Miles coached those teams during their most successful era ever, which just adds to the irony. But as you implied, recruiting is different for them and so I get why they did.

I strongly disagree.

update: We probably played the strongest schedule in the SEC and the nation last year. With one exception, we played the toughest SEC schedule possible, because we played all the best teams on the road, while not even playing most of the worst SEC teams. We finished 2nd in the regular season, behind #1 Florida, who beat us 2-1 in Gainesville to open SEC play, before losing to us in the SECT and the CWS.

We played half of the CWS teams during the regular season (UF, MSU, UT and TT), came within an out of winning it all and finished 2nd in the nation. So I don't know how anyone could think we were only the 3rd or 4th best team in the SEC, alone?

Limped in as a national seed that beat #1 national seed in the SEC tournament.
