After the Panthers beat the Texans 28-13 Sunday, Carolina tight end Jeremy Shockey called out Houston players for not respecting USA during the National Anthem. Shockey said...
quote:

“I was pretty upset in the way that they (Texans players) weren’t showing respect to America during the national anthem. There were about ten players that didn’t put their arms across their chest.”

“This is America. You should at least respect America.”
Shockey has got, what, like two years before he's in the WWE?

@Gumbo1, read again, not defending disrespectful people at all. whats ironic is we fight to the death for our right to free speech yet we bitch about it when someone chooses to exercise that right. Hand placement is a petty argument. Patel is not my real name as I suspect you are not really a Louisiana cuisine. We don't share the same opinion on this subject but the rules of etiquette are in place to guide us only. Shockey still needs to chill.

WTF Patel? This is one of things that is wrong with some of the people in the US. Any sign or act such as the US National Anthem should be respected by written or un-written ettiquette.

Have a name like Patel, I would think you would be even more respectful as should any immigrant to our GREAT NATION. I, myself, am and immigrant and proudly served in the US Air Force and I consider that a small part of paying back what the US has done for me.

In fact denizens and citizens of the US (besides the Native American Indians and Eskimos) are immigrants in the past or present.

Respect the flag! But also respect anything that represents the USA!

You are a loser if you take time out of your day to defend anyone who disrespects anything ot do with the anthem.

Or have the idiocy to call others ignorant because they cover their hearts during the song.

I alsways stand at attention facing the falg and with my hand/cap over my heart. If it is more than is called for, GOOD, happy to do it and show up the ZEROS who don't just because it isn't required!

It's a pretty small price to pay for your freedom.

Ignorant? How about just choosing to show honor for the country while the anthem is played? Some people can negatively frame just about anything.

Patel is right on. Hand over the heart is a pledge only thing, but ignorant americans do it during the national anthem as well.

Flag Etiquette
STANDARDS of RESPECT

The pledge of allegiance should be rendered by standing at attention, facing the flag, with hand over your heart.

When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention at the first note through the last note.

you put your hand over your heart for the pledge not the national anthem. Shockey needs to chill

He is right. It is pathetic that lack of respect that is shown by the players and the fans during the National Anthem.
