Former Missouri Tigers defensive lineman Michael Sam has signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. The team annonced his two-year deal on Friday, according to to ESPN:

"With the signing of Michael Sam, we have become a better organization today," Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said in a release. "Not only have we added an outstanding football player, we have added even a better person that brings dignity, character, and heart to our team."

Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 draft but failed to make the team. He was signed to Dallas Cowboys practice squad and was later released.

I wish him luck, but exactly why is this news???

By the way, he lost me when he agreed in advance to do a documentary for Oprah, and his actions at his house when he got drafted were clearly staged (kissing the boyfriend, shoving cake in each other's faces, etc.). It just looked pre-planned, and that turned me off (no pun intended).

Exactly why is this news? I'm happy for the guy, but the obsessive coverage of one player, strictly for non-football issues, is silly. Stick to football. Leave the rest to another news outlet.
