University Of Texas To Rename Football Field After Ricky Williams & Earl Campbell

The University of Texas is renaming Joe Jamail Field at the request of the Jamail family...

According to the school, the name change came at the request of the Jamail family.

Nothing controversial about Jamail that we're aware of -- he was a wealthy UT alum who donated a ton of money to the University and they honored him by naming the field after him in 1997. He passed away in 2015 at age 90.

Ricky issued a statement on the honor ... saying, "Earl and myself are honored to be part of the momentum of change sweeping our alma mater, the University of Texas, the nation, and the world."

He added, "We recognize the naming of Campbell/Williams Field is a historic moment and we urge our nation's univiersities to continue to reflect and review the history, symbolism, and dentities that we place on monuments, public institutions, and sports organizations."

Campbell also spoke out -- saying, "The symbolism of this honor transcends the recognition of the Heisman Trophies we received."

A) it is the Lee AND Joe Jamail Swim Center B) That pool is one of the nicest/most historic venues in the world. C) They just spent about $20mil to renovate & update it. D) They just finished building an outdoor training facility right behind the Swim Center... It is going to be a loooong time before t.u. gets a new Swim Center.

where does this end? Street names, towns, states, our continent (surely Amerigo Vespucci did some bad stuff back in the day). Just wait for them to come after "Tigers" because LSU's version was named after the Louisiana Tigers infantry who fought during the Civil War. It's just a matter of time, folks. And none of it will make ONE SINGLE BIT OF DIFFERENCE in anyone's life. It's all feel-good silliness for the SJWs.

Take the whole "renaming things because they are perceived racist" aside, and naming the field after Ricky Williams and Earl Campbell is a no brainer. Any kid that grew up in Texas during the Ricky Williams years at UT idolized him. Same for those with Earl. Naming the field after them makes much more sense than a mega booster.
