© Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports
Pitt QB Kenny Pickett executed the perfect fake slide during his team's ACC Championship. So perfect, that the NCAA has banned the "fake slide"...

I agree with banning fake slide. Defense is trained to "not hit" when QB starts the slide. Still a nice play though!

Good play by him. I also hope he decides to play in his bowl and gets absolutely drilled by a middle linebacker while sliding.

Once you decide to make it a non contact, contact sport, you have to create rules in response to previous rules.

What about acting like your running out of bounds. But, you fake it for 10 more yards.

You can still get hit if you're in the field of play, once a player starts to slide, it's considered down where he begins the motion. It's apples and oranges.

Bad take.

Ah, the Tim Tebow move.

Good. What he did is like calling for a fair catch and then running for a TD.

"Changed the game" I hope that kid gets sacked every time he drops back for a pass. You didn't change the game for the better, you caused a rule to be created because nobody else was lame enough to do that shite. Eat shite Pitt and frick your sleazy QB.

This clearly bothers you a lot. Though I can’t understand why.

I'm actually quite happy to see the rule. Quite disappointed that it was needed to begin with. It's unfortunate people ignore the spirit of things and basic sportsmanship. Even worse, it is becoming quite more common in society. I feel the same way about players who flop trying to draw fouls and so on. Lame.

Oh lordy. MUH FAKE SLIDE!!! Players attempt to game the system scores (if not hundreds of times) per game...and all of a sudden our society is almost over because of this? LOL

I hope someone lays him out the next time he tries to slide

Y’all are so mad about this haha

Big mad. Don’t hate the player, hate the fact that the refs should have blown it dead but didn’t.

Why did they make this non-reviewable? Seems like a QB that's cutting and juking can be whistled down due to a phantom fake slide, without review. Would hate to be the team to get hosed by this. Just make it reviewable, jeez.

Changed the game, your backyard football play changed the game. If someone would have nailed you on that play this guy would have been crying he was trying to slide.

Can't wait to have future games decided by inept refs making judgment calls on whether every subtle motion a QB makes while running constitutes a "fake slide". I can definitely see a QB slowing down to wait for a block or doing a stutter step getting penalized because refs can't tell the difference.

Nothing wrong with his fake slide. It's illegal now, but rubbing is racing. Play to the whistle.

Stupid take. Defensive players are punished if they hit a sliding qb.

Should be banned. All the defensive guys had started giving up on the play when he started sliding.

Fully support this

Bunch of old washed get off my lawn weirdos sure are triggered by a guy who made a smart, game breaking play. Sheesh. That type of football iq and will to win should be celebrated. Glad the rules prevent this now, but the hate this young man is getting is absurd.

The good thing about the rule is that it is not review able so defenses can't cry “he tried to slide“ if refs don't see it.

I’m more worried Bama refs calling a standard QB evasion a “slide”

Don't hate the player, hate the rule.

Nah I can hate the player for this one. The rule is there to protect him and the defensive players are trained to pull up or get a 15yd penalty. The rule was clear enough that the player is down when he started to initiate the slide. He clearly did that. The only update to the rule really needed to be a 15yd penalty for faking it.

Shouldn’t have a slide rule in the first place. Everyone on the field is a football player. If you run with the ball, you get tackled.

Obvious to see he's a douchebag. He should get leveled the next time he legit slides just to teach his punk arse a lesson.
user avatar
fairhope28 months
which is why they put out the rule. guys starting to slide get levelled by defensive players not making the same mistake.

Pitt QB Kenny Pickett admitted he started to slide: ““Yeah, it was intentional. I just kind of started slowing down and pulling up and getting ready to slide and I just kind of saw their body language and they just pulled up as well." Interestingly Wake Forest Coach Dave Clawson didn't have the melt a lot of posters on this site had, saying, "“He started his slide and our kids stopped playing. I don’t think he did it intentionally, but if he did he’s brilliant." So apparently the opposing coach thought it was brilliant.

So, he's proud there is now a "written rule" for a bush league maneuver in his honor. Why is he proud of causing this to have to be done? Shame on him.

So how do they know if someone tripped or made a juke vs a fake kneel?
