Grand Valley State fired their new offensive coordinator Morris Berger on Monday, only a week after being hired. Berger was let go after praising Adolf Hitler's leadership style in an interview with the school newspaper...
quote:

KV: So you graduated from Drury with a degree in History, you’re a history guy. If you could have dinner with three historical figures, living or dead, who would they be? And I’m ruling out football figures.

MB: This is probably not going to get a good review, but I’m going to say Adolf Hitler. It was obviously very sad and he had bad motives, but the way he was able to lead was second-to-none. How he rallied a group and a following, I want to know how he did that. Bad intentions of course, but you can’t deny he wasn’t a great leader.

KV: The way he was able to get people to rally around him was crazy.
MB: Yeah, that’s definitely one. You have to go JFK, his experience with the country and being that he was a good president and everything. And this might sound crazy, but Christopher Columbus, the ability to go on the journey he was on and his emotion into the unknown. Think about putting yourself in the setting of that unknown, and then to take it all in as you arrive is crazy.

All he said was in his opinion Hitler was a good leader. He's not even inaccurate.

I like the title of the article of the interview and the editor in chief's note: LINK /

Whats even more crazy is people can come out and say how they admire Castro or Stalin or Ho Chi Minh or Pol Pot AS A PERSON and get applauded by the left.

Mentioning old Adolf in a positive light, no matter the caveats, has been a 3rd rail since well before this age of hyper-PC...just ask Marge Schott (dig her up first).

Yeah, but how would he be as a Passing Game Coordinator?

Nothing he said was irrational, offensive, or out of line.

If they fire(d) (not certain based on Larry's headline) him they should expect to hear from his lawyer... He even prefaced that it was a sad situation and bad motives before he made the comment! It is not like he condoned the actions of Hitler.

I don't care what point you are trying to make. Since the days of Marge Schott, no one has been able to pull off the "Hitler was a bad guy but" argument. Many have tried, all have failed. Just don't.

Amazing the number of people on here who fight for this man's right to retain his job for expressing an opinion—only to turn around and call for the termination of NFL players who express their opinions through kneeling.

If you are referring to kap not being in the nfl, that has nothing to do with it. He sucks thats why he was let go.

I don’t recall anyone calling for players to be fired for kneeling. I do recall people calling for a boycott (ie choosing to not spend money with the NFL) so as to shape league policy. If the players want to kneel have at it it is their right but I don’t have to support a league that supports them. This isn’t what happened here.

if he was a good history student, he would realize the hilter's rise was not because of hitler's talent. at the time, hitler's party was manipulating the public, first with fear of russian communism, then with a jew threat. then, he just said, 'we are better than them.' so, hitler was not so talented as he was ruthless and uncaring of his own people. when his party rose primary power, he, like stalin, started killing the political opposition (not much talent in that approach) Berger should not be fired for saying what he said (free speech), but ignorance because those history books were in front of him and he saw nothing.

Manipulating the public to do whatever you say, especially when what you're saying is horrible, is a talent.

Any student of history has to rank him as one of the greatest orators of all time. The man swayed an entire country to his ideology. Acknowledging that doesn’t equate to agreeing with it or praising it. If you said Genghis Khan was one of the greatest generals in history, despite the fact that he slaughtered his way through the known world, you’d still be right. People need to take context into account

I would say what he said about Hitler was exactly, spot on. Hitler was a lunatic but his ability to get people to follow his message was extraordinary.

I wouldn't say it even if that's how I felt but to get fired for that is ridiculous.

Free speech, yeah right.

You are a bonafide right wing nut job. Freedom of speech unless it’s African Americans demanding equal treatment and equal justice under the law. Then you have a problem.
