Deion Sanders Lands Another Top Commitment At Jackson State
© Tori Lynn Schneider / USA TODAY NETWORK
Deion Sanders has done it again. He has landed Kevin Coleman, an elite four-star pass catcher, chose Jackson State over Florida State, Miami, Oregon and USC on Saturday...

quote:

“I really stamped my final decision (Friday),” Coleman said, via 247Sports. “Really just talked to my parents, told them the decision I was making was to be different to make my own legacy, to make change.

“Primetime, why not play with the best. … Coach Prime I believe in him and trust him. I believe he’s going to get me where I want to go. Also I believe in myself. I feel like you can go anywhere and compete. Feel like one day everybody going to see kids can go anywhere and compete and make it anywhere. I trust that Primetime is going to develop and trust he’s going to put right people in the room to develop me. I just felt I could do it there.”

If Prime keeps pulling in these recruits, they will be on TV... they'll bump a few games to put them on.

Was JSU on tv when Walter Peyton was drafted? How about Mis. V. when Jerry Rice was? Man, honestly if you good, the NFL will find you. Hell, players get drafted from schools like Ball St., Wyoming, etc. Be honest, when was the last time you watched one of their games? JSU (Deion Sanders) is making headlines, scouts and many others will definitely keep an eye on the program to see how he and his players perform.

I'm glad he is in a state beside louisiana pulling these kids. Wish he was in a state that would help us more.

Must be the money.

It's in everyone's best interests that HBCUs become legitimate places for top young black athletes to play.

Is it best... the best white QB, kicker and punter play at Yale type schools?

Kind of wondering. Jackson Ms is run by the same crew that got Kwame elected in Detroit. I sure hope Deion is not hooked up with tax money paying players for NIL. Deions school in Dallas got caught up in trouble.

Similar thought. Deon is known to be shady.

Exactly which University that lands good recruits isn't shady? I've yet to see one. Not sure if he's doing anything shady but he won't get top recruits or last long if he isn't. It's how ALL good programs get top recruits. There once was a time that Grambling University had some of the best talent in the country. Recruits choosing HBCU's isn't as new as some think. Look at Walter Payton and Jerry Rice for instance.

Ellis, other than HBCU'many or most schools in this country refused admission by Black Students. The last all-white football team to win a Natty was in 1969 for some context. That had more to do with the history than a choice.

With the portal they can follow him once he proves that he can get top players. O made a few bucks being a “great” recruiter

LOL, are you serious? You don't think kids go to the NFL from HBCU's? Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Mel Blount, Steve McNair, Michael Strahan, Shannon Sharpe and countless others. Man, if you good, the NFL will find you....I promise you that. We always talk about players paying for pride of the university and so forth. Yet we question when top-tier recruits choose a school for more than just the standard reason most athletes do. Many HBCU's are operating on small budgets and in debt. They offer education to many that can't always afford the bigger more predominantly white institutions. Yet, African-American athletes consistently choose to attend and play for these Universities and aid in millions of dollars being generated annually. I promise you Deion is selling these kids on the fact that "hey, the NFL doesn't care where you play at in college, they just care in your skillset and ability". Plus he's offering a chance for them to possibly generate money/funding for an institution that generally wouldn't get that chance. And NO...it's not being racist, it's spreading the wealth. There's nothing wrong with choosing to help a university that has helped so many others that you identify with. Hunter family would be in a MUCH better situation to pay out-of-state tuition for Jackson St. than LSU. I'm pretty sure outside am athletic scholarship, many of the black LSU players would've never been at LSU.

WOW...reckon how far that "Coach Prime I believe in him and trust him." will last when "Prime" is offered a "Prime" time job??? And it will happen.

1) they can always go to the transfer portal is it doesn’t work out 2) they can always go through the transfer portal and follow sanders Really no risk. Likely to get play time right away as well.

Sanders bringing his Prime Prep ways to the ncaa. Let's see how much these kids are getting in nil money. Also their grades may not be cutting it for the better programs.

Soon other schools will hire celebrity coaches to recruit. Lil Wayne at Prairie View A&M, and Halle Berry coaching the Southern Jags.
user avatar
ellis19757527 months
Ummm, why those two individuals for those particular schools? SMH And that is precisely what Deion is selling these kids on. Fact is, many football players only get the opportunity to attend these more predominantly white institutions because of athletics. Yet, without athletics, they typically attend HBCU's primarily due to tuition. There are tons of great players in the NFL from HBCU's.

I think thats fantastic. Takes courage to believe in yourself. Good for the HBCU system, which is good for everyone.
