Brian Kelly Says Notre Dame May Schedule Easier Games For To Make The Playoff
Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports
Notre Dame was in the hunt for the College Football Playoff come November, but got blown out by Miami, and well, that was that. As he prepared to play LSU in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day, head coach Brian Kelly talked with ESPN about how he may change his team's schedule, adding easy games as breaks like other schools do. They do?...
quote:

“We didn’t have that breather game the week before one of our rivals,” Kelly told ESPN. “There’s some other conferences that have it built in, and they do it for a reason, and it works out well for them. That’s really an institutional decision, and we’re going to have to sit down, we’re going to have to look at it hard. We thought the 13th [data] point was really important, right? But that doesn’t seem to be that important anymore.

“It seems like the goal posts shift and move a little bit as it comes to how you get in, and this schedule is really, really difficult.”
Thoughts?

I agree with him. Temple, Wake Forest, Miami Ohio, Boston College, Navy, & UNC are too good. He should weaken that schedule a little. An even weaker rpi will get them in definitely.

Yah...Temple is a tough game the week before you get UGA at home.

Just join the SEC and you can beat 4-8 teams all year, not win your division and they'll vote u in the playoff!

Not a shabby schedule but will never have to play a conference championship game.

Neither did Alabama but they made it to the championship while UCF went undefeated, won their conference and got to play in the Peach Bowl.

If Brian Kelly really thinks ND is as good as, or even close to, any of the 4 teams that made the playoffs, he's got bigger problems. I seriously don't think he believes this; just posturing for future seasons if he's every close to having a top team.

Just like the old days when ND, Nebraska, Penn State only had one game per year... Michigan and Ohio State too.

LSU's schedule next year includes Georgia, bama, Miami and Auburn, all were in the Top 10 before the bowls. Win and you're in Tigers.

You were in position to go to the playoff but then you got fisted by Miami. And Isn't this the same coach that had teams under perform in previous years and was even on the hot seat?
