ESPN is reporting that Arizona State has fired basketball coach Herb Sendek after nine season with the school.

Sendek, 51, came to Tempe in 2006 after spending a decade at North Carolina State, where he guided the Wolfpack to the NCAA tournament in each of his final five seasons.

Sendek guided Arizona State to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances -- in 2009 with James Harden and in 2014. He also took the Sun Devils to the NIT four times.
Arizona State finished 18-16 overall this past season and 9-9 in the Pac-12.

Names floating around as possible candidates to replace Sendek include Memphis coach Josh Pastner, Duke assistant coach Jeff Capel and LSU assistant coach Eric Musselman, as well as others.
