The Advocate is reporting that LSU Tiger Marching Band Director Roy King has been fired after five years as the director and 18 years working in the band’s administration.

He was put on paid administrative leave April 6 pending an investigation by LSU’s human resources department.
quote:

LSU spokesman Ernie Ballard confirmed in a statement that King is no longer employed by LSU, and that the interim band director is Dennis Llinas, the associate director of bands.

“We have provided Mr. King with a letter outlining our reasons based on an investigation related to adherence of policies, procedures and financial safeguards meant to protect Tiger Band and LSU,” Ballard said, adding that this would be the final comment from LSU.

This is sad. They never gave the man a reason for being under investigation, and still haven't clearly stated which policies he violated. Watch now how the re-allocation of funds will be dispersed among the school of music instead of just the band.

How do you know they never gave him a reason?

They never gave the public a reason. You don't know that they didn't tell him a reason. I highly doubt there was an investment he is or was totally clueless about it. This isn't North Korea.

TGBFTL has been horrible since Moorhouse left. They have had 2 or 3 latin 1/2 time shows a year. They would repeat them over and over ever year, once to the west than to the east. They did a lot more standing around and playing with little marching. I don't like to see anyone fired, but the band was bad. Bring back Moorhead.

While I hate to see Roy King go, the band has suffered and has become rather boring and unentertaining compared to other bands around the SEC. I don't believe he should've gone out this way, but the band is definitely in need of some reinvigoration.

About time. The band has gone to shite in recent years.

The word on the street is that his firing had nothing to do with the quality of Tiger Band. It was done so that the School of Music could get their hands on money that in the past had been used for Tiger Band stipends/scholarships.

If they were firing him due to the performance of the band, that would be one thing. But the "official" reasons given to Roy, according to his attorney, are 1)That he was improperly using funds allocated to the band by the athletic department for non-music purposes (the $640/year activity stipend colorguard and golden girls have been receiving for decades). 2) Cash went missing from the desk of a School of Music employee and they are holding him responsible (even though he had no access to the cash and was not even a supervisor of said employee) and 3) nepotism because he gave his daughter (a senior musician at LSU who has been at band functions since she was a toddler) a crappy internship with the band, which was one of the open student-worker jobs available for her work-study program, so why not?

In reality, however, this is the School of Music trying to gain control of the athletic department funds by reintegrating the Tiger Band into the School of Music.

The pathetic LSU admins at it again. First we are going bankrupt, then let's fire Coach Miles but change our minds and look stupid and now this. F. King must go.

They were going to fire him at the end of the season but changed their mind in the 3rd quarter of the A&M game.
