Sam Cooper and Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports updated their preseason college football Top 25 without the Big Ten and Pac-12 team that won't be playing this season and pegged LSU at No. 5.

Here's what they had to say about the Tigers:
quote:

5. LSU
We know who’s gone from LSU’s record-setting offense. Let’s talk about who’s here. Ja’Marr Chase may not put up the numbers he did in 2019 but he’s still one of the best receivers in college football. JaCoby Stevens is a top-tier safety and Derek Stingley Jr. is just a sophomore but could be the best cornerback in the country. Myles Brennan won’t come close to doing what Joe Burrow did last year, but he should be more than a serviceable starting quarterback after three seasons on campus, including two as Burrow’s top backup.
Updated Preseason Top 25:
1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Georgia
4. Oklahoma
5. LSU
6. Florida
7. Notre Dame
8. Texas
9. Texas A&M
10. Oklahoma State
11. Auburn
12. UCF
13. Memphis
14. North Carolina
15. Miami
16. Virginia Tech
17. Cincinnati
18. Kentucky
19. Tennessee
20. TCU
21. Iowa State
22. Louisville
23. Pittsburgh
24. Appalachian State
25. UAB

It’s been 20 years since that surprise season and win over FSU. Stoops was going to conquer college football with that tornado offense. Instead he did his best Marv Levy impression.

Not sure why people always complain about Oklahoma at 4. They make the playoff every year, which means they are top 4. Putting them at 1-3 would be dumb, but 4 is the right spot. Odds are they will be in the playoffs again.

Multiple SEC teams that don’t make the playoffs each year could beat OU each year…

The bigger story here is this ranking being absent of 2 entire P5 Conferences, thus elevating 5 SEC teams to the Top 10.......and the Boogers still can’t crack the Top 10!

I cant argue Clemson and Alabama as their favorites considering the losses we have, but Georgia and Oklahoma consistently choke and prove they were over rated. WHY are they ahead of us? Its BS. Personally I think the Defense will be lights out this year and if Myles Brennan gets in a comfort zone he has the skill players to dominate. I think Joe Burrow was good, but he was in a great offensive system. Everyone flourished making Joe look like a God. I cant wait to see Myles Brennan light it up. I think he will make you all not miss Joe.

I get Bama and Clemson being the annual top 2 but Georgia and Oklahoma have proved time and time again that they don’t belong up there. LSU waxed every single one of the Top 4 last year but we are always underrated. I’ll take it for motivation

I realize, no big 10 or PAC 12. But, UAB being "ranked" is impressive as hell. What was it? 4 years ago program terminated?

Not sure why they post a picture that includes Dabo standing next to Tiger's trophy and O. Didn't you have one with just O and Tiger's trophy?

We destroy Georgia and Oklahoma, especially Oklahoma, in the SEC Championship and playoffs respectively, and they rank us below both of these teams! Even though all 3 teams lost their starting quarterback! That is just total disrespect to LSU! Where's the logic here! These poles are a joke!

Good thing y’all didn’t lose any players or coaches during the off-season or you’d sound like a total arse hat.

Weren't we 5 with the Big Ten teams included? I thought Ohio State was 2. So who did they slip ahead of us?

Oklahoma, lol..My as well put Notre Dame, Texas & Texas A&M ahead of LSU as well, if Yahoo wants to act even more stupid. If everyone was playing, Yahoo would even have Michigan ahead of LSU.

OU doesn't have LSU to soften up the Longhorns this year before they play. I think UT wins this year.

1-3 is fine, no arguing but OU above LSU? Invalidates the entire polls. I literally quit reading right there.

I haven't followed OU's departures, but LSU lost a LOT of key players from last year's team. Them starting at 5 is perfectly fine with me

Both have unknowns. Not sure why you think they are automatically higher.

If both have unknowns, I’d favor the team that won 63-28.

favor the team with the proven better defense.
