See this aspect of Brian Kelly has surprised me quite a bit. I just didn’t know that he was so good with the motivational aspect of coaching. Of course this can have a huge impact on these teams. Kids need to be challenged but also need to be grounded in the day to day. He’s very good at showing them how to do this while also getting the best results from them. That’s not always easy to do. You can do one or the other and some coaches aren’t even good at that. This is exactly how I coach my teams and I was also a very good teammate to have because of this. I was extremely confident and always knew I was going to do well in a game and later on I transitioned that to my life but I was a little older when that happened. I wasn’t very good at being grounded or living the day to day with full awareness of myself or events taking place right now. That was hard for me. To not get tunnel vision and simply look at the goal and not at the day. When you can do both, then you’ve got something. It looks to me like he is doing both for these kids and that will translate to the games and life! Great stuff by coach Kelly. We have a great coach people!
