Update:
FootballScoop.com, who originally reported that LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada was seeking an interview for the head coaching position at Rice Unversity has now said that "Matt Canada no longer plans to interview for this one (Rice)."

Original:
Candidates for the head coaching job at Rice University could include current LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada, according to Scott Roussel with FootballScoop.com.

Roussel reports that Canada is seeking an interview with the University as they look for a replacement for David Bailiff who is no longer with the program.
quote:

Sources have told us both Stanford coordinators (Mike Bloomgren and Lance Anderson) have a good shot at the job. We are also told LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada is seeking an interview.

Bruce Feldman tweeted both Stanford coordinators and South Carolina offensive coordinator (and former Owl) Kurt Roper as potential candidates as well.
Canada just wrapped up his first regular season as offensive coordinator with LSU. Head coach Ed Orgeron said during his Texas A&M postgame press conference that he wouldn't be surprised if Canada were to pursue head coaching opportunities now that the regular season is over.

Does this guy stay anywhere for any length of time? wtf? Does he just stay for a short time then rely on speculation of what he could do...

Seriously. WTF is wrong with this guy? I get the desire to be a head coach, but this would probably be a pay cut to take over a cess pool of a program. The problem is that even if he stays, the writing is on the wall that he won't be here long - certainly does not help offensive recruiting when they don't know who their coordinator will be.

As long as someone writes a bigger check, yes! That’s pretty much the way of the world.

Not sure if his resume is strong enough for a HC position but if he wants out after only one year we don't need to stand in front of him. I hope he get the job and I hope we get an OC who will stay here longer than a year and actually enjoy being a Tiger.

I’m with you, but I think those days are over unless you hire a home grown product. I think that’s why O put Ensminger’s name out there. He bleeds purple and gold and would have no interest in going anywhere. However, he also stated that he has no interest in being the OC, either.

well i guess the writing was on the wall....when someone has so many stops on is resume in such a short time, it's not a good thing.

the problem with getting the best coordinators is that they are always going to be on everyone elses list of head coaching prospects so its a catch 22.the best coordinator prospects are failed head coaches returning to just be coordinators because then they arent looking to go anywhere and no one is calling them with offers they cant refuse. this is a must for LSU because you cant build long term success here without stability in your coaching staffs

True. With that said, I wonder if Les would consider returning as OC? Lmao! I’m sorry. I really couldn’t resist!

I miss the days when Rice was one of our annual whipping boys. Lots of 63-0 type games. Maybe if Canada goes there we can renew that series.

All the uproar from yesterday over nothing. The media wins again. However, even if Canada stays another year, he will be striving for a HC position somewhere. So don’t be surprised when he does. It’s just advancing in his chosen profession. Can’t blame him for that. There are plenty of good coordinators out there who would love to come to LSU! I know I would!

Totally agree! Hey man, let's jump to conclusions and base our opinions off things we have no clue about.

I agree with Stripes. Canada is ambitious and wants to be a HC. There’s nothing wrong with this and it’s no ones fault. It’s a natural progression. The days of just staying at one place as an assistant are over. Get used to it. Contracts mean nothing. It’s not a big deal. I doubt O has his career pinned to Canada or even Aranda. He knows you have to recruit coaches as well as players. This man knows a lot of people and will make the right hire. And if successful, we’ll be talking about that guy interviewing for a HC position in a year or two. Even Little Nicky lost 2 OC’s and a DC in the last two years. This doesn’t mean Canada is unhappy. He just wants to move up, and he will eventually. The good news is LSU pays their assistant coaches more than any other school, so attracting top coaches won’t be a problem. Relax!

i dont buy it, canada has his pick of many good schools he could have gone to if he wanted to be a HC last year except for texas. it makes no sense for him to come to LSU, especially with an unproven new HC here if his plan was to be a HC. now, that said, if someone dumps enough cash on him or anyone else they would take it and give it a go. i just dont think his plan all along was to come here for 1 year and lewave

We knew he wanted to be a head coach. I don't think he will get the job but he won't be here more than another year anyway. Good bye.

Wow he is very desperate for any HC gig. I hate this.

You could look at his history and tell he's a job hopper. I think that even if everything went perfectly for him this year, he would have stayed max 2 yrs. I don't feel like he really enhanced his resume with the output this year, but everyone has differing opinions. I agree that we should be hiring someone now.
