BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (October 6, 2016) – The LSU-Florida football game scheduled for Saturday in Gainesville has been postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, it was announced Thursday. The universities and the SEC Office will work to reschedule the game later in the 2016 season if possible.

“We had a very productive phone call today with a great spirit of cooperation between the universities’ presidents and athletics directors and it became clear that the University of Florida could neither host nor travel to a game this weekend considering the circumstances,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “The developments of the hurricane in the last 24 hours, the projected magnitude of its impact and the unknown aftermath of this storm have resulted in this decision to seek another date to play the LSU-Florida game. We have to be sensitive to the possible imminent disruption to the state of Florida and in particular the Gainesville and surrounding area.”

At this time the schools do not have a common open date on which to reschedule the game, so the schools and SEC Office will make every effort to find a scheduling solution with the possible movement of other games on the schools’ schedules. Read more.

Wow. They worked the system well to get out of playing that game with their depleted D-Line. Kudos to UF for knowing how to work a system.

Disgraceful on the part of UF. Could have easily found a neutral site with some foresight and planning. Cost all these kids a game after a lot of hard work. Pitiful.

Unbelieveable, yet they were ok with LSU traveling to UF before this announcement.

With the delay in making a decision they should forfeit this match. Puts us a game behind because Florida admins wouldn't make the obvious decision to move the game. State of Emergency should dictate a schools ability to hold games. SEC did a poor job of stepping here.

If any of you think this was for any reason other than to get Jeff driskell back for the lsu game you're kidding yourself. Hurricane was a great excuse for this joke by the if athletic department

We know they are lying because of the announcement earlier this week that The game Will not be Moved from Gainsville. Pecker necks

Bet they try to move it to 11/19 because we both play out of conference games. LSU will get screwed and lose a home game. Two years in a row this has happened

I don't see that happen. LSU isn't going to lay off South Alabama, lose a home game, travel to Florida and then play Texas A&M four days later.
user avatar
Hopefully if they try to force that Joe and F. King will demand at least 10 million from Florida for us sing a home game!!

Florida and Georgia share a bye week. Let them politely ask Georgia to reschedule for their bye week in order to play LSU the weekend of TWLOCP.
