Sports Illustrated released their Way-Too-Early Top 25 for the 2019 season this week and pegged LSU at No. 13.

LSU was the 5th highest ranked SEC team behind Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M. Here's what they had to say about the Tigers, who finished 2018 with a 10-3 record and No. 6 final ranking.
quote:

13. LSU

If Joe Burrow’s four-touchdown performance against UCF in the Fiesta Bowl had been the rule rather than the exception during his first year in Baton Rouge, then LSU might have had a shot at a playoff spot. Burrow will be back for 2019, and replacing running back Nick Brossette will be key.

The secondary has a chance to even be better even without possible first-round pick Greedy Williams, as All-America safety Grant Delpit comes back. That defense will be tested early when the Tigers visit Austin in Week 2 to take on Texas in one of next year's better early non-conference games.
Complete Way-Too-Early Top 25:
1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Georgia
4. Ohio State
5. Notre Dame
6. Oklahoma
7. Michigan
8. Texas
9. Florida
10. Oregon
11. Texas A&M
12. Washington
13. LSU
14. Penn State
15. Utah
16. UCF
17 Wisconsin
18. Iowa
19. Auburn
20. Northwestern
21. Iowa State
22. Army
23. Michigan State
24. Missouri
25. Virginia Tech

Where do you think LSU will be ranked with the 2019 season begins?

Not 13th that's for damn sure. LSU is easily a top 10 team and I'd say around 7th or 6th with all the talent coming back. It will be the same team with more experience and incoming top talent depth so how in the world is LSU not ranked ahead of Texas who loses so much? This is a joke and LSU will prove that going into Austin next year. Can't wait. 2019 is looking like a banner year in all 3 major sports. Baseball, Basketball and Football. GT

Nothing wrong with a top 15 ranking but you can tell SI did no research before coming up with their rankings.

I agree and believe LSU is a top 10 team, but to be honest I wouldn’t mind if they insulted us and put us back at 25. Nothing better than being called an underdog to fuel the tigers play

LSU is returning most of their players and will be even better next year while playing an easier schedule. Texas is loosing too many players on the lines and impact players to think they are better than the Tigers. Aggies lose a ton also with Clemson on the schedule and they play in Tiger Stadium; no way they even match their record from this year. I don't know about some of the other teams in front of them, but those two should not be above LSU.

13th is ridiculous. At most, we lose what, five and probably less than five starters off of the defense and two starters off the offense, and we fall to the 13th spot? Give me a break.

Right now, if Devin White and Rashard Lawrence return, 17/24 starters are back. Lose on offense: Brumfield, Moreau and Brossette. Lose on defense: Williams, Battle and Alexander Lose on STs: Tracy 13 is too low.

Actually, its kind of sad to think that their aren't 20 teams better than LSU right now in college football. It really shows how poorly a lot of teams execute. We watch games week in and week out and pick apart how ineffective LSU is at alot of positions and how poorly they preform on a lot of plays. Scary to think that so many teams are worse. Scarier than that, if you watch teams like Clemson and Alabama week in and week out you realize how big of a gap it is between where LSU is and where the top two programs are. A lot of work to do for sure, and especially if we keep having guys leave early and transfer.

Dude you really aren't paying attention are you? This is the most players that return in probably a decade or more. Almost all Key players return except Williams and White hasn't made a decision yet. We add lots of talent like Stingley, Emery, Thomas, Brooks, Chassion, Palmer, Starks, Davis, Ika, McClendon plus all that returning talent. Lawrence, Fehoko, Charles, Rosenthal, Wire and on and on. If LSU lands big time talent along the OL and DL to close this cycle then we'll be set up to add more depth there in 2020. If LSU keeps bringing their juniors back while also landing this kind of talent to provide depth in the future then I think by 2022 year LSU will be right there with Bama and Clemson consistently. Key word being consistently. I think LSU will have great seasons here or there no matter what but LSU is trying to be consistent and if we keep doing what we doing then that will be the case by 2022.

The reason SI has LSU ranked so low is they don't respect Coach O and Ensminger. They respect coaches like Herman and Jimbo, giving them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to coaching up the younger players to replace the previous starters that are now gone. SI thinks Coach O is going to eventually fall apart. So until he wins something serious at LSU, he will always be considered a second rate coach at a first rate program. Same thing goes for Ensminger and his offense. They saw mediocre offensive play last year, and will expect the same until proven otherwise.

Look SI is a joke of a Sports Magazine. Hell by the time they mail it out the info is a week old. They are so famous for being inaccurate with football picks/ratings that there is the Sports Illustrated curse. Whoever SI puts on their cover as #1 is always a jinx and never wins. Who gives a damn what that rag thinks.
