Per SEC Sports:

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (November 13, 2020) - The Southeastern Conference will utilize December 19 as a playing date for football games rescheduled during the 2020 season due to the impact of COVID-19 and has established parameters that allow for the adjustment of game opponents as late as five days prior to competition, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Friday.

As of Friday, all games planned for November 21 will be played as scheduled. All games currently scheduled to be played after November 21 are subject to weekly evaluation in order to reschedule games that have been postponed during the 2020 season.

"It has been a goal of the SEC to play a complete football schedule provided we maintain a healthy environment for student-athletes and everyone around our football programs," said Sankey. "The added flexibility of a December 19 playing date for teams that do not qualify for the SEC Football Championship and the ability to adjust opponents on five-day notification provide a greater opportunity for our schools to play a full schedule of games in 2020."

December 19 is the date of the SEC Football Championship Game to be played in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Teams that do not qualify for the championship game would be eligible to play games on December 19 that are rescheduled during the remaining weeks of the 2020 football season.

In addition, the Conference office may revise the weekly football schedule up to 9 pm ET/8 pm CT on the Monday prior to Saturday games for the purpose of maximizing the number of games available to be played. The games subject to rescheduling would only be those on a team's original schedule and against opponents that a team has not yet played.

Oddly none of this was needed until Bama was affected. Then the SEC acted.

Agreed. This season has zero validity. *2 of the Power 5 Conferences play 7 & 8 games. *None of the College teams had a Spring Camp and the play on the field is poor as a result. *Then we had 4 or 5 weeks of preparation in the Fall but it was limited to just 20 hours per week. Hell, it takes at least 2 or 3 weeks to just get the players in game shape. *Many players “opting out” of the season at the last minute or even after the season began. *No fans. *Cardboard cutouts. *No tailgating. *Fake crowd noise. So a team like LSU is forced to put a team on the field which has probably the highest turnover in personnel in the country with almost no time to coach all the new starters and install a new Defense. Now we have the starting QB go down with injury and are forced to play a true freshman at QB who has had very little time to practice and learn the offense and how to interact with the other players. These players and coaches have my respect because these “games” are in essence practices and scrimmages where they are receiving “on the job” training. This season is put together to help schools make some TV money in order to stay afloat and I understand that but to act like this is a real and legitimate season is simply a lie.

This is stupid. There has to be an sec title game. Just play to 12/19 and whomever is 1st each division goes. That’s it.

Why even bother? If you're not going to play in the SECCG, it means you're not competing for a championship of any kind. And no fans.
