Chase Goodbread with NFL.com believes that NFL team could be worried about the long-term durability if Mettenberger becomes an NFL starter and absorbs hits on a regular basis. LSU Trainer Jack Marucci had this to say:

"Did it flare up in his career? Yes. We would treat it and he'd be fine," Marucci said. "It wasn't something we thought was a chronic disc or something. He doesn't need surgery. There's no surgery for it. He's worked with our doctors. This shouldn't be a big deal as long as you treat it, we did some core stabilization. His senior year, we didn't even talk about it."

Some recent Draft projections have Mettenberger being selected as high as the 33rd overall pick in the 2nd round to the Houston Texans.

Facts aren't exactly slanderous. Personally, I don't consider spondylolysis an issue unless there's concurrent spondylolisthesis ("slippage") involved, or if for some reason it is chronically symptomatic. There are plenty of people walking around with spondylolysis that aren't aware of it. He most likely had it before football started, and to me doesn't necessarily predispose him to having more back problems than any other guy taking hits.

It is not a HIPAA violation. HIPAA laws only apply to health care providers and health insurance companies. As part of pre-employment physicals and drug screenings, you have to sign a consent form that allows the health care providers to share that information with you prospective employer. Once the prospective employer has that information, they can do whatever they want with it. Why? Because HIPAA LAWS ONLY APPLY TO HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND HEATLH INSURANCE COMPANIES.

Interesting, I would guess he could file a suit against the league. No doubt that this got out during examinations at the combine. That being said, stuff gets on players every year and no one has complained yet.

I would assume to enter the draft you sign fairly extensive contracts allowing these teams to learn pretty much whatever they want to learn about you.
