Kevin Patra with NFL.com reported this week that former LSU running back Leonard Fournette was almost cut by Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the postseason started due to Fournette not being happy with his playing time.

Bucs coach Bruce Arians spoke with Fournette after the Week 14 win over Minnesota and gave him two options regarding his role on the team.
quote:

"I said, 'This is your situation. It can change at the drop of a hat,'" Arians told Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. "But this is your situation. Either embrace it, or you say, 'Cut me.' I said, 'What do you want? Because this is a very special team that you're part of. I think you've got a feeling of that. Just see if you can hang in there to see what happens.' And he did, and I'm really proud of him."

The rest is playoff history.

Fournette got his shot when Jones went on the reserve/COVID-19 list the next two weeks. Then Jones suffered a quad injury before the postseason, opening the door further for Playoff Lenny. Fournette capitalized on the opportunity. In four playoff games, he rushed 64 times for 300 yards and three TDs, including 89 yards and a TD in the Super Bowl, and added another 148 yards and another score on 18 catches.
...And now he's Lombardi Lenny.

I believe it - he was below average all season until the playoffs. He played really well in the playoffs but still was their second best RB in my opinion.

People forget that Leonard Fournette is one of the best RB's in the NFL. Unfurtunate he was in a horrible situation in Jacksonville. Let's be real this is Fournette first time playing with a legitimate QB college or pros. So if he's not in Tampa next season I just hope he goes to a team with a real QB.

I’m a Fournette fan as well, but to call him one of the best RBs in the NFL is crazy. James Robinson, an UDFA Rookie rb, produced more on a worse Jaguars team than the former #4 pick. He had a great playoffs but still hasn’t shown the vision or ball catching skills to be considered even a top 10 back in the nfl currently.

I agree. I love LF7 and want him to succeed but I think JD Moore was his “vision”... follow that guy to the hole

He stuck it out, unlike at LSU, and won big for doing so.

How did he not stick it out and give everything at LSU? Comments like this show how dumb you are as a person and a fan.

Sticking it out while getting paid millions is definitely different than sticking it out while playing for free

Somewhat surprised he didn't opt out or say cut me in this case. I am sure he is glad he didn't go that route this time.

He's high maintenance.

Lenny is like a lot of players who think their entitled and soon find themselves out of the league, because of their me first attitude or they’ve became a cancer in the locker room .

Hope he can parlay that over into next year.

The article title and the quote don't match. Sounds like a threat to his player and boasting of it. I would imagine this happens often in pro sport.
