UPDATE: Ryan Nielsen To Remain With The Saints.

It was reported Monday afternoon that LSU was finalizing a deal to make New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen the Tigers' new defensive coordinator, as stated by NFL reporter Jane Slater.

Later on Monday evening, Slater tweeted that the potential hiring hit a snag by the Saints not signing off on the move.

Well the Aints can't stop it. At worst it costs LSU more money.

They just did. LSU is, once again, too broke to pay the buyout.

If this was any other place than LSU would the Saints object? Just wondering.

Yes. This is an argument about whether he can go "anywhere" not just LSU.

What are they going to do to him if he leaves?

Sue him and prevent him from working elsewhere. Same as a noncompete clause, but I guess you don’t run into that in your line of work??

Not a lawyer, but noncompete clauses are very difficult to enforce in Louisiana. The area is specific as to Parish or Parishes and cannot be like "the state of Louisiana." Also, it is presumed that everyone has a right to practice his or her profession.

Who with the saints is likely the most problematic with this? Loomis?

Uh, no. This has Sean Payton's hands all over it.

Loomis is doing what Payton wants to do. After Joe Brady making Sean Payton look stupid Payton is not wanting yet another Saints assistant to go to LSU and be a success.

The Saints have been playing Louisiana like a fiddle for too long.

Agree 100%. I have never forgiven the Saints for shaking Louisiana down after the disaster of Katrina. The hell with the Saints.

This is a really bad look on the Saints. I can't imagine coaches will be lining up to work for the organization if they're going to be kept from furthering their career because someone else with the organization is so petty.

Bend the knee and give Tom Brady the game Drew. 4 division championships = 0 Retire now is the time. Now Nielsen will have bad blood if he stays.
