The New Orleans Police Department has issued a simple battery warrant for Odell Beckham Jr. after he slapped a police officer on the butt inside LSU's locker room on Monday night at the Superdome. Per NOLA.com:
quote:

New Orleans police on Thursday morning obtained an arrest warrant accusing NFL player Odell Beckham Jr. of simple battery in relation to a locker room interaction he had with a Superdome police officer Monday night.

A police spokesman said the warrant was issued after a video showed Beckham apparently slapping an officer's buttocks after LSU's championship game.

A law enforcement source said authorities originally sought a warrant for a misdemeanor sexual battery charge, but it was declined by a judge.
Here's video of the incident:

As a former police officer I think this a bit much. You in a locker room full of excited young men who just won the National Championship. Give em a break on the cigars and the slap was celebratory at best by an intixicated OBJ. Im a critic of OBJ on some topics but even I cut him slack on this.

Yep, a security guard; i.e., he doesn't seem to secure to me. With all the crime, shootings, murders in N.O. we are going to pursue this. OMG

Jesus Christ. Cops in the locker room? Is this North Korea?

This is just getting ridiculous now. It was bullshite that NOPD was even in the locker room harassing players in the first place.

The fact that they tried to charge him for warrant for a misdemeanor sexual battery is just sad

Why was the cop in the locker room in the first place?

There were complaints of heavy smoke wafting through the corridors. There is a no smoking indoor policy in the state of Louisiana. I don't want second hand smoke cancer. This guy was just doing his job. If Clemson won and the roles were reversed you would be praising the officers for doing their job for once. I guarantee it.

1) Confirmed by my NOPD Sources, this is a rent a cop. 2) Rent a cop getting all worked up over celebratory cigar smoking in the locker room and pressing battery charges on OBJ for a butt slap is the most Louisiana Thing Ever. 3) OBJ should have calmed his arse down and the only thing we'd be hearing about is a small incident over friggin cigar smoke and rent a cop would have been shamed on the internet.

Just wait. This arrest warrant is a first step in the process for the civil suit settlement. Sexual assault would have given more negotiation power to the rent-a-cop attorney. This will be settled and go away

I can 1 million percent assure you the NOPD has more important things to do than tell a bunch of players to put out their cigars after winning the national championship

Getting on your own state flagship university’s players after winning the NC for lighting up cigars, threatening them with jail, and then charging someone for a pretty ticky tack slap on the butt with all the enthusiasm of the championship, and the fact you’re there threating players for lighting up cigars in the first place. You technically might be right NOPD, but you really come off as enormous dicks for doing so, and nobody is impressed with your overboard tactics or attitudes. We know you’re the AuthoritEYE, BUT FU just the same for being enormous dicks, and not putting all this into perspective. Let’s see you handle actual real crime the way you’ve done this silly shite.

Oh, and the intelligent thing to do would have been to simply go to Coach Orgeron, or next on the chain of command and tell them they need to reel the players in because it’s a problem. Let them handle their own players rather than personally threatening a bunch of kids after just winning the National Damn Championship with jail time for celebrating with cigars. Wisdom deprivation

Not sure why that cop was even in there with that bullshite. They were partying, no one was getting hurt. If he had a problem with the guys smoking he should have went to the coach and told him to shut it down. Any damage that was caused will be taken care of once everyone was cleared out and it was assessed. Cops like this one gives the rest of them a bad name.

Them issuing a warrant for OBJ was chicken shite as well. If that cop had a problem with what happened he should have addressed it when it happened. He didn't have to arrest him, but he could of wrote a summons to appear at the time. He just went back to the precinct where he got ragged by other cops and felt embarrassed so now he wants to press charges. Like the guy who runs up wanting to fight until he gets his arse kicked then wants to press charges.

Why are there so many cops/security guards in the team locker room?

Exactly! Get the hell out of the Locker Room and let the guys celebrate history.

Odell is a dumbass. But that rent a cop is a typical dipshit going on a power trip trying to assert some fake authority. No different than those assholes wearing a real uniform.

I am no OBJ fan but the police officer handled it poorly - get with the AD, head coach and let them manage the players - the excitement was at level 100 and the officer had no business in there

The NOPD should be embarrassed they are pressing charges over something this ridiculous given the context. They bend over backwards for "community support" then do something this stupid.
