UPDATE: Ryan Nielsen To Remain With The Saints.

LSU is reportedly finalizing a deal to make New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen the Tigers' new defensive coordinator, according to NFL reporter Jane Slater.

It was reported earlier that LSU would be requesting permission to interview the 41-year-old assistant coach now that the Saints season has come to end.

Nielsen spent the past four years working under Sean Payton in New Orleans. Prior to the Saints, he was run game coordinator, defensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator at NC State from 2013-2016.

Ed Orgeron is very familiar with Neilson as he was Ryan's defensive line coach at USC from 1998-2001. Coach O also hired Neilson to be his defensive line coach at Ole Miss from 2005–2007.

Great hire. Should of been #1 from start. But I understood why he wasn’t. Last Saints D-line did a great job. But first and goal on 3 won’t stop Brady.
