Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and North Carolina coach Larry Fedora have both been contacted by LSU for the head coaching job, according to NOLA.com.

LSU pursued Jim Fisher heavily last November and could be favorite again but the report says interim head coach Ed Orgeron is still very much in the mix to land the job full-time next season.
quote:

Some of LSU's largest financial backers are starting to warm to the prospect of Orgeron leading the team next season and beyond, according to a source connected with the school's benefactors.

Orgeron's fate might hinge on his ability to lure a top offensive coordinator to Baton Rouge to join his staff if he were hired.

"He would have to have the right guy lined up, or there will be a lot of resistance from influential people," according to a source briefed on the search.
The report also adds that other candidates include Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and Houston's Tom Herman.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva will look to make a decision starting at the end of November or early December.
quote:

Alleva is said to be targeting the end of this month to the early part of December in announcing his decision, which could give the new staff the ability to host recruits on official visits before the NCAA dead period starts Dec. 12.

So whats the short list of potential OC's?

At this point in the year, LSU shouldn't even be talking about this in the media. Of course you have agents out there trying to chum the water, and get better deals for their clients. But Alleva shouldn't say anything at this point until pen has been put to paper. I despise the "coaching carousel" bull shite in any and all sports.

Fedora or Herman is a complete joke. They are struggling in their own weak arse conferences. I doubt they could win in the SEC West. Plus, Herman kisses his players before every game. That's just weird. And could be construed as sexual misconduct. We don't need that crap!

Up to this part of the season, Fedora has a better conference record than Fisher this year. Plus Fedora beat Fisher head to head. Sounds like Fedora and Herman aren't the only ones struggling in their own weak arse conferences.

I would like for it to be Jimbo but only and I say only if he plans on keeping Dave Aranda and a few other staff members like Corey Raymond... Jimbo is a great offensive mind there's no doubt about that and also someone who can develop quarterbacks so if we pair Jimbo with Aranda we would own the SEC. Anyone coach who does not plan on keeping Dave Aranda can keep walking bc under no circumstances LSU should EVER allow Dave Aranda to leave!!

So anyone that disagrees with you should be cursed at? Aren't we all supposedly on the same team? Look, I just disagree with the jimbo people, he has proven nothing to me. I'd rather have Fedora, who is currently beating him (two times in a row now). Coach O is awesome, I love him. At the same time I think there are possibly better options for us. I just don't see how he has proven to be a guru of the game. We have to outwit Saban, we aren't going to outrecruit him. Either way, whoever we hire I support him 100%, and I would hope tiger fans everywhere can raise their glasses and toast our future conquests.

Win out and Coach O deserves the shot. Agree, we need a proven OC though.

When do they reach out to Chip Kelly? The list of actual contacts just seems to be starting. Kelly has stated in the past he won't return to the college ranks, but that was before moving to SFO and not having that turn out ideal for him.

What proof do you have that LSU "pursued Jimbo heavily" last November?

It's Fisher's job to turn down. He'll turn Lowell Narcisse into Jameis Winston 2.0

Coach O is great freinds with Kiffin.
user avatar
Woodman89 months
Kiffin would use Coach O just to hoodwink LSU. The guy is a snake and the only reason he hasn't been fired again is because of Saban's strong command and control nature. IF Coach O could convince Kiffin to actually show up after agreeing so verbally, we'd likely be in trouble with both the SEC and the NCAA within a few years.

Love coach o but jimbo is a proven commodity. AND a few games don't count in my book.

jimbo proven how? he proved he could get his butt whipped florida st score: louisville 64 to florida st 17 for 2016 season and jimbo lost to larry fedora so tell me why is jimbo a good choice cause of what jimbo did with the noles in years past well les miles did good with lsu in years past . go with coach o or fedora common sense buddy

We've struggled on offense for years and need a qb developer and our genius fans clamor for a DL coach. Sigh.
user avatar
RedPop489 months
So unless the head coach is an offensive guy, it is impossible to develop quarterbacks? It's that cut-and-dried? No matter WHO Ed Orgeron would bring in as quarter back coach and offensive coordinator, the fact the he is a DL coach precludes ANY kind of coaching success? You do realize that this years' OL coach on many NFL teams and college teams, might become a DB coach at their next job? Happens every year.

overhyped .. he rode Winston for all he could. LSU players deserve to not have 3 coaches in 3 years .... the first time in MANY MANY years that LSU won the game after Alabama .. always a let down excpet this time. Coach O deserves a chance based on what the players like and what he has done.
user avatar
earl keese89 months
3 years is "MANY MANY years?" Going all the way back to the 2000 season, LSU is 15-2 in games AFTER the bama game. Boy, some of you folks really like to exaggerate things.
