Report: Ed Orgeron ‘Found Out From Somebody Else’ That Joe Brady Was Leaving LSU

According to this Sports Illustrated article by Ross Dellenger, head coach Ed Orgeron found out that former passing game coordinator Joe Brady was leaving the staff just one day after the National Championship "from somebody else."

Orgeron reportedly expected Brady to remain on the staff after he signed a memorandum of agreement, but that wasn't the case.

The 30-year-old had even signed a memorandum of agreement, a document binding him to a contract with the school. But it also included a clause allowing him to leave for a college head coaching job or the pro ranks. A day after the national championship win over Clemson, Orgeron learned of Brady’s departure while on the 90-minute bus ride from the championship site, New Orleans, to Baton Rouge. “I found out from somebody else that it was going on,” Orgeron says in an interview in his office in March.

Brady is now the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.

Time will tell with Brady. He was always going to be an nfl guy. That said I find it hilarious that he went to a rival of the Saints, and that team in desperation to copy the Saints signed Bridgewater since he knows the system. In the end, I think Burrow gets way less credit for the turn around the. He deserves while Brady gets way too much. Both were great but neither has the success of last year without the other. Also, I think the change in philosophy was the bigger deal moreso than genius game plans from Brady.

True but Brady did not have the balls to stand up and say it in public not say it to Orgerons face. When you put your two weeks notice in at your job or any job, you talk to them face to face to let them know your plans how much you enjoyed your time and plans to do going forward. Brady did not have the balls to do any of that sort. Yah I get it, going to the NFL for maybe more $$ and did not like recruiting but you can man up and say that to the head coaches face and say your intentions in public like everyone else

Keep in mind "droppings" is half of the name of this page and like many tabloids plays on the emotions of fickle fans. NO ONE expected Brady to stay at LSU if the NFL came calling. That's why it was in Brady's agreement clause. LSU couldn't match the salary he was offered. This story is a big NOTHING BURGER, served cold, with wilted lettuce! Personally, I'm grateful Brady was at LSU one year. We wouldn't have won a Naty without him.

Brady changed the offensive culture at LSU and will likely never get the credit that deserves if we continue to be a top 5/ top 10 program. That was the most frustrating part of the Canada hire/ fire, but Brady saved the day.

It’s not like Brady went to be o-c at Alabama. He went to the pros. And it’s not like he left the day before the season ended. Good opportunity for him. My problem is Orgeron talking about it makes him look petty and small. Thank the man and wish him well.

@brew - I mean, it was broke to O on the bus ride back from the NC game. I'm sure Brady thought he had more time than what ended up being less than 24 hours. I can't fault Brady for this. Now, if it had been a few weeks, maybe you could have blamed Brady for being a dick, but less than 24 hours after the NC and probably right when Brady officially took the job, na I can't blame him for that.

Brady seems to want to be "the brains behind the operation" and not looking to make it about him... I could see Joey Freshwater down at Ole Piss handle this completely different... Oh, wait, he's done that already and imo it cost bama the game. I can imagine a scenario where Brady wanted to wait to tell Coach O himself, in good time, but probably thinking he had more than a few minutes after the Natty to handle that business. I am just thankful that it was not a distraction before the game.

It's a dog eat dog profession, you have to look out for #1, because nobody else is. Brady may have not even wanted the Carolina job, but may have felt pressure not to turn it down, for fear of being pigeonholed into being thought of as a College guy by NFL front offices.
