LSU is reportedly hiring College Football Hall of Fame coach John Robinson as a Senior Consultant to head coach Ed Orgeron, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman. LSU later confirmed the report.

Robinson, 83-years old, has coached in College Football and the NFL since 1960. He won four Rose Bowls as head coach of USC, one which was a National Championship victory in 1978. He last coached for San Marcos High School (CA) in 2010. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“I want to welcome Coach Robinson and his wife Miss Beverly to the LSU Family,” Orgeron said. “Coach has been a great friend and mentor to me and he will be a very valuable resource for us in growing our championship culture at LSU.”

Robinson will assist Orgeron as a consultant to daily planning of practice, personnel and game planning.

Robinson has an overall college coaching record of 132-77-4 and a NFL regular-season record of 75-68. He went 4-6 in the NFL Playoffs.

To me it's a shame that football is allowed 13 hired assistants/analysts and baseball has 2.

30-somethings know everything. Guys in their 50's and 60's appreciate the expertise that others may have.

One thing Ed is showing us is he’s not pig headed, and is desiring success rather than the status quo. I love it.

Ed is definitely thinking out of the box. If he don't win a NC, it won't be from a lack of pulling out all the stops.

Some of you just don’t get it and never will. My question to the ones that don’t is, what harm can this move cause?

Most of you people negatively commenting on this have never once played on any kind of organized sports team in your life. If one of you has you rode the pine. Robinson's presence alone will help cultivate a winning mentality at LSU. Players know what the man has done, they know he was a winner. And the respect he has in SoCal cannot be overemphasized. This was a great move! O is playing the psychology game now. One that saban learned many years ago. Bringing Robinson on board will automatically give LSU more respect with those outside the state of Louisiana, especially in SoCal!

I agree with most everything you said. I think it was a great hire for little money, he can help continue to cultivate a wining culture, he has incredible respect in SoCal which can benefit us in recruiting. But don’t kid yourself into thinking these 18-21 year old players had any idea who John Robinson was before he was hired. He won his national championship before some of these players’ parents were even born. And I’m again, I do really like the hire, I’m just being realistic.

I’m not concerned about his age he’s not the HC nor is he an AC. The man has probably forgotten more about X’s and O’s Than most people could acquire in two lifetimes. Him speaking to a young man about some of the players that he’s coached and motivating them to do more-be more is on its own worth the hire.

I'm no LSU fan but I don't see anything bad about this. Some of you just lose your minds over things that don't really matter. John Robinson can definitely be helpful to Coach O. and the program.
