Multiple sources are reporting that former LSU defensive coordinator and current Youngstown State head coach Bo Pelini is expected to be named LSU's new defensive coordinator.

Pelini will replace Dave Aranda who is now the head coach at Baylor.

The news was first reported by Brett McMurphy with Stadium.com.

Pelini served as LSU's defensive coordinator under Les Miles from 2005-07 and was in charge of the defense when the Tigers won the 2008 BCS National Championship over Ohio State.

The 52-year old left LSU after the 2008 title game to become the head coach at Nebraska, going 67–27 and winning at least 9 games every year before he was fired in 2014.

Pelini has been the head coach at Youngstown State since 2015.

I liked Bo when he was here, but this ain’t 2007 anymore and I’m a bit skeptical. However, Coach O has earned my respect and I’m trusting he knows better than I do. My fingers will be crossed.

I mainly like it because it doesn't seem to be using this as a stepping stone job like most coordinators like Aranda and even Brady (I know he wasn't the OC but it was a stepping stone job) do. He has given running programs a shot. Hopefully this hirer means we have a good and consistent DC for many years.

I definitely like the hire. But I’ll be very interested to hear how his fiery coaching style meshes with the other defensive coaches currently on staff. I know the other guys can get fiery at times but they aren’t at that level 24/7 like Bo is.
